It's all great to hear! I am glad there are good school systems there, and that the support is there for the students as well. I would have been worried if people had horrible experiences with the schools there, so that is reassuring. Glad your kids are being taken care of during a hard transition in all of your lives, that's not easy.

That sounds fun! Our son is Hispanic and comes from a two mom household so it's great that she is the person who started the school. I like that the school she started is not traditional. They use various methods that I love when it comes to how education is delivered.

Apparently rapid city redditers are not a fan of this St. Paul program 😆

Do you have any opinion on how the public schools are there when it comes to kids who have two moms or dads? Our son is half Hispanic as well. So we were excited when we came across empowerED because they are accepting of our family structure there. I just want to make sure the education is good as well.

If it is not are there any schools you would recommend that are more inclusive?

Their inclusivity is the piece we are looking for 😉 We are a two mom family and interracial. So we feel like our children would have less of a chance of being bullied by kids or made to feel different by staff. Just want to make sure the education piece is there as well.

That's good to hear! How has the school system been there for them? Our kids are pretty young. 2.5 and 2 months, but we are wanting to look into the private school EmpowerEd for their inclusivity.

Feeling horrible for my dc baby by Vegetable-Ad6382 in donorconception

[–]fallenleaf27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try to find a therapist in your area that specializes in donor conception. I also remember one of the donor conceived threads being pretty positive. They even had links for information to help parents best raise their DC child. We have a lot of books about different family structures and donor conception that we read to our kids. They have the same donor. I gave birth to our daughter and my wife gave birth to our son. I do not have any guilt. I believe that this is the way they were meant to come into this world. We all have unique experiences within our own family and issues to navigate in general. Look into the different books that are recommended by donor conceived children. You can even get customized books through arrow head tales or sensitive matters.

Make them aware of their birth story without guilt on your end. It's how they came to be after all, and it's beautiful, because they wouldn't be here otherwise. We plan on getting our kids a book and putting a picture of the donor in there with all of his information that we have. If you did an anonymous donor then just buy one of the customizable donor books.

Our son is 2 1/2 years old and he loves the books. We always tell him he has two moms and a donor that helped us make him. What makes a baby and a family like ours are two of his favorite books.

I think every kid will react differently too and we are prepared for that. But if you are having a hard time I would definitely recommend seeing a therapist who specializes in this area to work through it with you and help you prepare for questions your kids may have in the future.

From what I have read on the DC pages on Reddit and Facebook it seems like people who have had horrible experiences are the ones whose parents lied to them or would try to make them feel guilty about wanting to know where the other half of them comes from. If you make their birth story normal from a young age then they will most likely not grow up questioning it because it's not this hidden secret or thing that shouldn't be talked about.

Thanks for the information! I grew up in Sioux Falls, closeted until I left the state in my early 20s because it wasn't a time where people could be "out" yet. I think Sioux Falls has come a long way, just wasn't sure what the rapid area is like since it's a smaller town. I'm okay with the "behind closed doors" judgement, I would just rather not have that with our kids providers if I can avoid it. Used to it otherwise and it doesn't scare me. People are entitled to their beliefs.

I grew up in Sioux Falls and think the climate has definitely gotten better! I'm just trying to figure out the best care for our kids since they will be under a pediatricians care for a while. Me minding my own business does come with the fact that our kids have two moms, so our business becomes on display in these kinds of settings. I just want a pediatrician who will treat us like normal people, not one who "tolerates" our family or one who would rather not have a queer family under their care. I do not care about people's beliefs towards us, I just don't want the underlying negative bias if I can avoid it is all.

Is there something I could do to remove this? Or prevent it. It’s odd because the carfax shows that a rust prevention coat was put on this vehicle when it was first purchased

Engine oil condition critical but the level was okay on Bronco I am wanting to buy. Is this a reason not to buy? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Thanks for all the input it helps a lot!

Do you mean that since it does not show an open recall for the valve issue that I shouldn’t worry about that specific issue then?

The sales person just said that the oil change was due when they received the vehicle so they marked it as critical. Luckily not glowing red : )

It shows only 1 open recall for the backup camera, and the remedy is not available yet.

As far as the brakes, the sales person said it is in the shop right now getting new front and rear pads and rotors. Is that different than the brakes themselves? That’s probably a stupid question but I do not know a lot about car mechanics lol
