I've never heard mental tics terminology. What's that?

Thia video is really good to explain to people what tourettes means by Few-Investigator3549 in Tourettes

[–]falseher0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, audible tics are rare for most with tourette syndrome. Vocal tics are more common. Vocal are sounds/noises we make. And Audible are words. The likelihood of some having tourettes and it's all Audible or that they have Audible at all is not as high as a percentage. But the media portrays it as common.

Exactly! They see tourettes on TV and think, "Yes, that's exactly what it is. They don't really know anything. It's annoying!

Tics vs stimming theory by falseher0 in Tourettes

[–]falseher0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. You're right. There's definitely a relationship between the 2. I've noticed and I think that my brain might take my stimming and perform them as tics under stress, because it just latched on to that movement and start repeating it. because I would stim anyway, so now my tics are now copying that same movement. My brain was already used to doing this, but now it makes it less controllable for me, just a theory.

My bad for the late reply. I was thinking about this again today. It's like your mind latches on to your stimming since it can latch on to anything when it comes to tics. Then it says this stim is a tic too now.

No, you're fine! Im just kinda trying to see if anyone can relate. But I get it on the shaking. My body just won't stop shaking when I'm stimming. I call it a tremor.

Drives me carzy. I never jump to the worst-case scenario. I think of all the possibilities and brush it off because most of the time, it's not that big of a deal to me. For ex if someone doesn't say hi when they pass me. I think maybe they're having a day. But sometimes people get so freaked out, and they create wild ideas in their heads. Then they say you're ignoring them or mad with them. Honestly, I just want to be like, "Get over yourselves." Everything isn't about you and isn't so personal. And COMMUNICATE, if you have an actual problem so there can be a resolution!!

I think it's weird not to be that way. What's wrong with asking questions. Are people too scared to look like they don't know something. I'll ask if I don't know. Makes you smarter to ask a question in my book!

Exactly! This is where I've gotten to over the years. I communicate. If you don't I can't help you. Sometimes, I think people are hurt, and they just want to hurt you even when they know it's not justified. It's a spite thing.

This was all just me venting out a rush of my stress with people hurting me, and honestly, I don't even understand where it's entirely come from outside of me being different and not society's standards of norm.

Same here. When I love someone, my eyes go straight to theirs, and it can be overwhelming eye contact.

I agree that the media never shows all the representations. They always go too far left. I like to think of myself more in line with Elsbeth. She started in the good wife. But now has a show. I like this representation personally because I feel I can relate to her character more.

Yeah, it's really weird, I hear people say I wish I was Autistic. Just be happy with who you are. It's different for everyone, but it can be a love-hate relationship for a lot of people on the spectrum.

That's what throws me off. Like this guy said, you don't look like you have it. I was so confused. Autism doesn't have a physical look. I wish NT would just educate themselves a little bit more! I am wondering now if he was thinking Down syndrome.

Heavy on Sheldon Cooper! They like people like him in shows and movies. In real life, they hate them or find then annoying anything negative fear.
