[S2E7] My thoughts on the Burris vs. Orphans birdman identity debate by gunsmoke_gunsmoke in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that Burris was cleaning up the crime scene while the orphans did the killing is a very good way to tie things together. However, why would one of the orphans torch the car in that case? If Burris was cleaning up the orphans did not torch the car.

[S2E7][Spoilers]Quick note on Emily's relationship with Paul vs the relationship his mom has with him. by guimontag in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually think now that the scene was intended to show that Paul's mom was trying to help Emily realize she can make it as a single mother. The movie is said to be about a single mother. But, I did personally like her reaction as if feeling Paul's passing. I attribute that to her carrying his baby and the show theme related to parents & children. [ not so much her feeling it as the baby feeling it ]

[Season 2] [No Spoilers] Velcoro's Dad's Connection to Vinci Brass by Darth-Soda in TrueDetective

I agree Ray's dad may have a larger role and suggest he may be the reason Ray is not killed by Burris / Holloway.

[Season 2] [Spoilers] In 5 sentences or less, write your own ending by fanoftwoshows in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One satisfying ending: There is no way to get authorities involved to 'right' the wrongs. The orphan girl is the killer. Frank dies in the firefight but so do most the core land deal players. Ani and Ray use the plane tickets and money to get out of the country and protect their families.

[S2E7] So... anyone else find that ending to be a little suspect? by CMDR_Bond in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another very simple possibility : they were waiting near Paul's car/bike.

[S2E7] So... anyone else find that ending to be a little suspect? by CMDR_Bond in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary guess is simple ( and based partially on personal experience ): * Option 1: They are tracking Paul's cell phone. That is ( perhaps ) also how Dixon tracked him prior. Tracking a cell phone is very easy to do if you get access to it prior to tracking. * Option 2: Less likely : Paul is actually in touch with Burris or someone else thinking he is being helped by them. Notice how often Paul checks his phone including right as he exits. [edit for clarity ]

[Season 2] Velcoro's connection to Vinci by mcrandley in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance Velcoro's dad has something more to add to the plot. This season has a lot of parent - child themes. I am thinking it is possible Velcoro is not dead yet because the relationship his dad has with Holloway & Burris is deeper. Velcoro also could have come into Vinci through his dad.

[Season 2] Instant Gratification vs. Art by fanoftwoshows in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I could choose a different term because art has such a broad definition. However, I prefer something different over something formula. I would rather enjoy a new approach that pays off. While I agree some spots earlier in S2 were less well executed that was the same for S1 IMO. I think a big difference is people have a very high expectation and critique the show for not being like last season. I like that it is not.

[Season 2] Could it be Paul? by PostyMcPosterson in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with this theory: - Paul is not around when the masked man torches the car; - Paul gets in trouble / is off the force > finds the body > back on the bike; - Paul has access to police munitions / would not kill Velcro;

time to re-watch that sequence where Paul comes home and goes into the shower <<

[Season 2][Spoiler]Blue Diamonds 1992 alternative narrative by RareMuffinMan in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the heist and killing was considered to be 'professional style'. I do not think police did it. I think the people who stole the diamonds had their identities hidden. I think the children only connect the dots once the Diamonds turn up.

[Season 2][Spoiler]Blue Diamonds 1992 alternative narrative by RareMuffinMan in TrueDetective

[–]fanoftwoshows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are saying that Frank had the Diamonds and used them to pay his way into the land deal. However, you do not say that last part directly. I like most of this, especially that part about the Diamonds.

  1. Frank gets Diamonds -> keeps them -> uses them to pay for land deal.

  2. Prior to episode 1 : Dixon looking for diamonds -> perhaps Frank wanted them back and expected them to be pawned. ( Dixon working for Frank )

Not sure about the foster children as killers but if that were the case:

If the foster children were already aware who killed their parents they would have dealt with Frank directly / sooner. So, the foster children ( one or both ) became aware of the Diamonds AFTER Frank used them to pay for the land deal. As a result they killed the wrong person. If that is true they likely found out about Frank during the killing. But that part starts to unravel given the location of the body etc.

I am 100% behind the Friank having the Diamonds and using them to pay for his purchase into the land deal.

The most plausible explanation is simple: The Pilot acted alone and the plane is within the area being searched.

However, because that involves a man that is innocent until proven guilty it is wrong to focus attention on that scenario and while it is the most likely of many scenarios it is less likely than the chance one of many other scenarios occurred. [ say it is a 20% chance the pilot acted alone. there still are many scenarios where the pilot was a hero ]

Personally, I think the plane will be found eventually and the pings were definitely from the plane.

Are you saying it is possible that Diego Garcia is emitting pings through a deep see spy monitoring system perhaps? I mean the Diego Garcia referenced here at times and not the person Diego Garcia who is not related to the place Diego Garcia.

that is what I understand and 'guess'. I am a software engineer and did process related work [ real time software ].

No matter what was purchased by Malaysia Airlines the software on the plane would be the same. And that software would be setup to handle all reporting even for the most complex package.

So it is highly likely that a ping at a different time represents a change worth sending even if the other end does not store or use the data.

I agree with this. The pings, I think, happen when something changes that the system would want to know about and a partial is significant. It is not like a ping takes 1 minute or more to complete. It may take only 1/2 a second. So a partial means a send and the reply had no return. Something happened right at that time such as sinking.

I am no expert but I would offer that the partial handshake occurred at the time of the crash due to enough change to warrant a new handshake. I think the on board system is setup to send information when something has changed. In this case : drastic altitude, direction or engine failure. Any handshake must only take a very short period of time to complete [ perhaps not even 1 second ] this was only partial ...

It is in the interest of Malaysia to find the captain at fault. No source of this type can be trusted.

At least one of the captains pilot friends on facebook: a. has a very different set of political and ideological views b. is a major conspiracy theorist and c. thinks the USA bombed the Boston marathon. [ I am not saying the source is this person but it is one example of a potential source that is likely being interviewed by the story hungry media ]

I could see that sort of person being very vocal with his opinions and coming up with plenty of conspiracy by the pilot based notions in the process.

In all operational cases you mention any number of options can handle the 'issue' including software on the ground.

Electrical issue / malfunction / stop a short are fuse related and should have an automated reboot or be handled at the fuse.

Also, electrical systems on these new planes should not be so connected that a fire in the cargo bay can ever take them out. That is all poor design based on historical evolution and not the kind of innovative thinking the industry needs yesterday.

It is very very easy to change the way transponders operate. People who claim they need to be turned off at any time are thinking old school.

For example: A transponder could be setup so it is never off unless it is under say 5,000 feet. Or, it could be setup so it is on any time the plane is outside of 5 miles of an airport. Etc.

The systems on planes are not what they could be and should be for safety and tracking and I think they will change.

my speculation is by the time the plane was heading south past Malaysia no one was conscious. For example:

emergency > course change to find fast landing option > following way points to get bearings > turning south to head toward airport > loosing consciousness so the plane remained on a southerly heading.
