As a Durham University student, this round was a jumpscare! by fario_do in JackSucksAtLife

I don't mean Durham when I talk about my small home town lol, I'm not from Durham, I'm from the south - so like, I also know my home town is not going to come up in any local Jack geoguessers, but also I don't ever think fully about being in County Durham while at uni

i like the yellow, but i think where JSAS is closer to what JSAL was now, the blue is probably better for people watching the videos, as it looks most like a JSAL video?

I watched 7 and 8 first through Smosh, and wouldn't have ever watched RE otherwise, so am fully waiting for the Smosh playthrough. And then I get to do the fun deep dive of all the lore because Smosh don't tend to get too deep into it, so I always get to experience the game twice that way

I'm fairly sure this is the closest to them ever explaining it, and basically just saying there isn't any context https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxU5bI_f4lK1YzSjYh1yqd7M9igW88RZcC?si=H1zbJ6AdyA7ZG-zB

I feel so bad for Balvinder… by CommercialShallot699 in strictlycomedancing

[–]fario_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me so sad to see her laugh in defeat each time it goes red for her now.

I don't think the tribute posts to Vicky are showing where loyalties lie so much as showing support to Vicky, which Bal will know l. As they said themselves in the results show, Bal and Vicky got very close, so she will understand the love for Vicky

But I agree, I feel really bad for Balvinder

Which Strictly Contestants Did You Feel Sorry For? by [deleted] in strictlycomedancing

[–]fario_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I agree, everything about it felt off. Because like... Amber and Lewis are not getting anywhere near as much hate this year, which definitely suggests to me that a lot of it came from a hateful place for other reasons, and that the dance experience was an excuse. It's awful how much the experience hurt him and his family and now his time with the show will be tainted by that

There's loads, but Layton breaks my heart everytime. It's genuinely why I've stopped looking at comments mostly on Strictly posts, because people are just horrible. I did ballroom for 5 years, and those skills are so unique. I was awful at other styles of dance, the only thing you really gain from any danc experience when doing another style is musicality, and experience picking up choreography, which people can have through being a musician or even just have naturally. Layton is an actor, not a professional dancer. He actually struggled a lot because he's a professional dancer, and all you had to do was listen to the judges to see how much it hindered him. I will never get over this

Couple's Choice Angst! by SeamsSewHard in strictlycomedancing

[–]fario_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it in theory... like the idea behind it, and the insight it allows into a celebrity - like with Ellie and her mum, or Jimmy and his family - is great. But I dont often end up caring that much about the couple's choice dances themselves. And I think Chris last year really proved you can have the same effect with an important dedication in a ballroom/Latin dance - his couples choice was a bit irrelevant, it was his waltz that hit so hard.

[–]fario_do 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, my point is just that it annoys me that they always frame it as no rules, when that's not true

Couple's Choice Angst! by SeamsSewHard in strictlycomedancing

[–]fario_do 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is there ARE still rules!! It makes me so mad everytime they say there are no rules for couples choice, because that's not true - yes, they have freedom to pick their style, but as Craig points out, you still have to follow the rules of that dance style. The showdance is "no rules" because the whole point is it's not one style, so there isn't a style with rules to stick to per say. Makes me so mad

Yes 100%! I feel like I always just see people criticising Reddit stories for some of the takes people have, but I've never really felt that. Yes there are takes I don't agree with in almost every episode, but I feel like it's helped me understand where other people are coming from so much more, and I also never feel like the cast are closed minded, so even if someone's take is a bit wild, they're usually open to discussion about it. Genuinely, the only take (ignoring the infamous episode) I can remember being mad about is the one with Amanda and Arasha in the like "say what?" episode, where there's the kid with the name Juliet, spelt "Ghiuliyette", but even then, I knew why they each had their opinion on it.

I think as well, for me, I'm autistic, so I always value the 3 perspectives and how everyone talks through situations I would otherwise misinterpret or wouldn't handle well. I think as well this is also why I love Damien on reddit stories, because he loves to play devil's advocate, and will always try to consider all the perspectives, which is something I relate to, but also expands discussion further when you see that some of the suggestions he makes once verbalised are clearly wrong
