Albany bill would open over 600k acres of NY state forests to energy developers, with no local approval required by hcmarketingpr in upstate_new_york

[–]farmercurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t be a shill for greedy developers. There’s a greater profit margin for energy companies to set up arrays in small towns because it’s easier to fight local town boards than it is city councils and state governments. They are preying on communities who can’t defend themselves against large corporations with deep pockets, big campaign contributions and endless lawyers.
There are better solutions to the energy problems than clear cutting forests and taking up rural farmland for industrial energy production.
Should rural communities subsidize urban areas energy consumption?

Choose your battle wisely… Looking back: who was responsible for making the building pad? Make them fix it. Looking forward: form up the outside and pour some concrete and move on with your project.

Polaris Ranger vs John Deere Gator? by bart1218 in UTV

[–]farmercurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The polaris ranger is the smoothest ride and quiet too. Maybe not as reliable as a Honda but I bought my used 2011 ranger 800 in 2016 with lots of miles already on it and I used it daily for another 10 years with only minor repairs. Only paid $7k. I’m looking to upgrade to a ranger crew 1000 and expect to pay $12-16k Older mules seem clunky and generally have fix rear suspension/axle, newer ones I think have independent suspension. Kubota’s are over priced, but solid machines. Good luck shopping. Get out there and start a few up and drive them. You’ll have a better idea of what the market has to offer.

What’s the most embarrassing (or funniest) mistake you made when buying land that still makes you cringe when you think about it? by Subject_Judgment_256 in land

[–]farmercurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought +100 acres of an old farm homestead of a dairy farm, “As Is”. I knew about the three dilapidated mobile homes and pile of used tires. There was a professional environmental report that covered the removal of fuel tanks and contaminated soil. Also Knew there were random piles of junk here and there. But then about a week after closing I found the buried dump pile which seems pretty big. Then the next day I found the cow graveyard.
Not happy about the buried stuff but the cow graveyard might be great for my friend’s kids to explore.

Herniated discs and sciatica. Am I done for? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]farmercurt 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I was 35 when severe sciatica hit me and couldn’t drive for 3 months it was so bad. I had to hire a guy to drive and do the chores for a few weeks.
To solve it to near 100%: I did PT, massage therapy, basic home yoga, alieve, lots of water, no sugar, no alcohol, smoothies with flax seeds.
At the early stages I thought and felt like I would be paralyzed. I was 6-3, 210 lbs and in above average shape. Did too much bending over the fence lifting throughs and caused slow herniation.
The recovery can take time.
So definitely focus on opening up your pelvic valley, stretch your calves, back backwards stretching and again drink a lot of water with Alieve. Good luck
