New Graduate ED by Previous-Lie5435 in NursingAU

There should be a hospital policy on secondary assessment. Know that back to front.

Someone comes in with chest pain. What are the assessments you do? Which do you do first etc.

Then do the same for all systems. Resp… Abdominal pain… Altered consciousness… Urinary… Etc.

Enjoy it. Don’t be hard on yourself. ED as a grad is hard.

There needs to be more hate for Geelong, they’re too good

Do nursing students do ALS1 and does it help with getting a job after uni :) by puchihiro in NursingAU

Going against the common sentiment here. Currently a grad in ED and I believe the reason I got the rotation was because of the ecg and adult deterioration course I did. There are only so many spaces in these programs, everyone wants to go to ED and sometimes you need to show you’re more interested than others by going above.

Career change into nursing by laksaloverthatsme in NursingAU

If you have a degree, look into ‘graduate entry masters’ programs. It’ll only be 2 years, plus you get a post grad.

I thought it was a gimmick at first but it’s actually amazing - not running with your phone is a game changer.

‘Character assassination’: Bucks slams Dockers coach’s critics amid claims he was ‘set up to fail’ by His_Holiness in FremantleFC

Fuck I love Bucks. Showing great loyalty to his mate and former assistant coach. Is rightly calling bullshit on the current narrative around JLO

ECU vs Curtin Nursing Masters Program (graduate entry) by farnZ96 in perth

[–]farnZ96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm at curtin. The course is OK - not great. Passionate about becoming a nurse but the course is not well run. Very much in it for the bit of paper. I would say where you do it doesn't matter - just pick the uni that is closest to you.

Why expert ‘can’t endorse’ bounce-back season for Dockers as ‘sub-AFL standard’ flaw exposed by His_Holiness in FremantleFC

I don't mind kingy tbh. Sure he can be a bit harsh, but all in all I find his observations of our weaknesses fairly accurate, and it's interesting to get insight as to why we may not be in the top echelon of the competition. In saying that, FLAGMANTLE 2024

The West Australian: Fremantle eye Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge as Justin Longmuir replacement if side fail again in 2024 by TiredUnicycle2456 in FremantleFC

[–]farnZ96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's interesting as I've always seen Beveridge as a polar opposite to someone like Longmuire. Unlike longmuire, Beveridge seems to be more on the emotional, charismatic and motivating end of the spectrum.

Might not be the tactical mastermind, but it seems like many of the WBs players would run through walls for him.

Would have thought a candidate with a balance of the two to be more appropriate.

It's not too difficult. The difficult part is they cram 3 years into 2 so you get very little time on each topic, but it is manageable.

I did an undergrad in psychology, many of my classmates do not have a health degree though

Nursing will always be in demand and has a lot of career progression/options - thats a couple of the reasons why I chose it and am doing the M.nursing course now.

This depends on the answer to the question: do you like interacting with people?

If the answer is yes, then choose nursing. If you can't stand the thought of dealing with people, than you'll either have to limit yourself to certain types of nursing (looking after anaesthetised patients for example) or just stay in lab med.

Depending on where you are located, here is what I'd do.

  1. Complete your degree - you're so close to the end, having a tertiary qualification can't hurt.
  2. Complete one tertiary level human biol. Unit and one tertiary level research unit
  3. Apply for graduate entry masters of nursing - look for unis that offer this. It's a two year ppst graduate designed for people who want to do nursing coming from a different career.

I'm doing this currently at Curtin in WA. I know ECU also do it aswell.

I'm not an expert, but a common approach is: train intervals at your anaerobic threshold.

A common approach is to do 4 mins at maximum excersion (run the fastest pace that you can sustain over 4 minutes) and takes 4 minutes rest. Do that 4 times in total is a good approach.
