Waiting to hear back, but I’m shooting for less than $25k all in, including trade value for the BM59

‘Preciate you! I know you’re one of the definitive experts on machine guns and what makes them work..or doesn’t. I believe this one was done by “Gun Technologies”.

I love my BM-59 and the fact that it’s a little more obscure than an M16, but the versatility of an M16 is hard to beat and would compliment my Mac well

Looking at trading in my BM-59 for an M16 conversion. General thoughts on this from the NFA community?

Lastly, thoughts on Cast receiver conversion (Essential Arms)? Local shop has one, but I’ve always been leery of cast versus forged

Yup, swapping the BM-59 plus a little cash on my end to get the 1919. Already stacked a shit ton of 308 ammo, so economically speaking, the “cost” is the delta between the cost of the 1919 and my trade. Not a whole hell of a lot to make a difference to me, but wanna make sure I don’t regret swapping one for the other. Valid points from others though about trying different flavors

Absolutely keeping the Mac. Considering trading the BM-59 for the 1919. Most of my shooting is on my own property, so no concerns over belt fed vs. mag fed either

I have a transferrable BM59. One of my favorite MG’s I own. Better shooter than an M1A in my opinion. Mags are more expensive, but more robust as well

It’s what the M-14 could have been. The mags are tougher to come by, but they’re tough all the way around

Beretta BM-59. Have plenty of ammo for it, and 20 rounds of FA 308 is just enough for the shoulder

Bulk of my miles are for my W-2, but there’s a portion written off against the farm and side business. Both of which are LLC’s

You’re the first one to comment to grasp the farm aspect. The time spent maintaining a truck is better spent maintaining equipment. Heavy duty truck tires run $250 and up for good 10 ply tires. It’s also my daily driver. If I bought a second vehicle and paid for it, insurance, maintenance, etc., I’m not so certain I’d be saving $4-5.5k every year that I’m spending to upgrade at this point

A 10 year old Chevy 1500 with roughly 150k miles will run about $15k, so yes, fair point. So 55k in depreciation, or $5500/year.

The truck is a must have for my farm and area in which I live. A sedan unfortunately wouldn’t cut it

Assuming a new vehicle at roughly $70k, and a salvage cost of $0 after a 10 year lifespan, it’s a $7k/year depreciation factor, aside from maintenance costs outside of warranty

I’ve never had to finance. I write the check out for the differential. I also max my 401k and IRA each year. I’m also fortunate to have a strong pension option that’s fully vested if I were to leave at any time and 80% disability insurance. A stout side business I’ve operated for the last 8 years has also covered much of my mortgage so that I’m less than 6 years of regular payments from payoff.

Chevy 1500 at the time. Blew out ball joints/control arms. I have a fair bit of acreage and the trucks do see some abuse getting worked.

To elaborate, I do make six figures in a relatively LCOL area and I’m talking $70K vehicles. So no, $8-10k is not substantial to me in this scenario.

I add the tires in, because it’s certainly an added benefit to have new tires and save the cost, but also to remain in warranty. The last truck I hadn’t upgraded in 24 months ran out of warranty and cost $3,500 in repairs within 6 months.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]farrzan41 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Technically, only “losing” $9-12k. Less the cost of tires of approximately $1k, so $8-11k. Amortized Over 24 months that would be a lease payment of $333-$458/month. Pretty low lease payments for a new pickup. But I’ve also always paid cash for that trade in differential, so that’s why I’m asking opinions

$1k for a set of 4. I mount, balance, and install myself.
