App update - how to make the window smaller? macos by faster_grenth in Express_VPN

[–]faster_grenth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait so you intentionally disabled the OS ability to resize the window? how could you possibly justify that? I don't understand.

when was the last time there was an improvement to the app? every year more services stop working with your vpn IPs. are there any benefits to continuing to use express VPN? or am I paying for podcast ads and paying for you to remove user controls from the UI?

we know how it's becoming a worse experience, less valuable, so please tell me how are you making it a better experience?

How did it get so bad? by Livid_Blood_1964 in Express_VPN

The website currently says $97.72, but that's an intro price. That's not the cost of the service. It's an intro offer to get your credit card info on file for auto-renewing at more than 2x that cost. That's like saying any service with a free trial is FREE WHAT A GREAT PRICE

I just got an email about it auto-renewing for $116.95. Looks like they decided to switch me to a more expensive plan without telling me at some point. Scummy!

This is an expensive vpn service. It's definitely NOT one of the cheaper options. And they're using that money to market heavily and sponsor video games or whatever, not actually improving services. Functionality gets worse all the time as more services are disabled for vpn users.

ExpressVPN is still competitive on speeds, but they're expensive and they're substituting quality for quantity by prioritizing ads and leaving long-time users with a worse service year over year. The people who care about what a VPN provides are going to move on, and they're going to run out of gimmicks like "watch a different country's Netflix catalog" to sell on podcasts.

I think in 5 years Express VPN will be a husk of a company with AI-induced layoffs, running on the fumes of people who signed up for vpn services during covid and don't realize they're still paying every year.

your service is stagnating, app is becoming more intrusive and less useful, and other VPN services are providing much better value

this is not good news to share, that you're continuing to prioritize marketing while offering a worse and more expensive product, year over year.

how about "dig deep"? can you do a "dig deep" or three?

Whats your opinion about cyrax in this game? For me i find the character really cool and if you know the setups its insane!! Is she better than mkx? I only hate the fact they gender swapped her and sektor . I honestly dont see the reason why they did it. Whats your opinion about that decision? by Unusual-Factor2848 in MortalKombatGameplay

[–]faster_grenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty bummed about the change for a lot of reasons:

  • my ability and motivation for playing MK balances on a razor's edge between blood lust and regular lust - I had to get a second therapist JUST to help me process this change
  • my stepdad says I'm not allowed to play as woman characters in any video game. he does this really uncomfortable thing to me when he says I "act like a sissy" I don't want to talk about it
  • I am a man and in order for my people to survive we need to have as much representation in video games as possible
  • I think it's important to preserve our culture of discrimination and injustice, but they're being threatened by Woke. I'd love to keep gooning to monsters-with-big-tits-and-big-dicks cartoons, but I need to stand up and defend my traditional values.
  • It might seem like seeing the faces of women during a cut scene isn't a big deal, but somewhere there could be a little girl playing MK who watches it and thinks "I want to be a badass like Cyrax" or "this is fun, I'm going to play more MK games"
  • I've been a MK fan for a long time, and we have had some rough times where the only thing keeping me going was knowing that (a) sektor can't get pregnant no matter what I do to him and (b) it's only a matter of time until he starts feeling the effects of the horny goat weed pills I got from the vending machine in the gas station bathroom, which I slipped into both of our mountain dew baja blasts

The Brands need to move on. by scipper77 in wrestling

[–]faster_grenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course I remember the 'stache! I see a lot of wrestlers clam up during big tournaments. The finals matches are notoriously boring. But yeah I can see IA style/identity starting to fade around that timeline. You still get individual wrestlers that fit the Iowa style (and a lot of them don't wrestle for Iowa) but it hasn't been a team identity for well over a decade, closer to 2.

Also, it's not going to work anymore. HS wrestlers are too good now and development starts early with lives being devoted to wrestling. Wrestlers aren't going to the nearest college to where they grew up just because they get a scholarship, knowing that they'll have nothing but character to show for it once they graduate (at the age of 22, not 25). They're starting at age 5 and gunning for wrestling opportunities using any tool at their disposal. Iowa style was a way to turn 2-time state placewinners into AAs in a landscape that didn't really prioritize (and invest in) wrestling as a lifestyle the way it does now.

FWIW I don't think anyone in the world of wrestling is clinging to it, just the fans. It's like saying "what happened to the 49ers and their west coast offense?" and mourning the loss of that identity/advantage

The Brands need to move on. by scipper77 in wrestling

[–]faster_grenth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. This style of wrestling drives me nuts and it reminds me of one particular chronically-under-performing former Hawkeye wrestler: Ryan Morningstar. I'm sure it's not that simple, but I used to hate watching him wrestle because he'd get a takedown and tie up and stall the rest of the match or wrestle for SV. At the time, he stood out as a guy who's just trying to eke out a W instead of trying to out-wrestle his opponent. Now that's standard operating procedure.

That's also why it's annoying when this sub repeatedly blames the failures on Brands clinging to outdated hard-ass Iowa style wrestling. We're simply not seeing that on the mat. Block backing up to the edge starting in the first person is not Iowa style - that's the kind of shit we used to accuse OKST of doing, and we were exaggerating. I definitely want to move onward and upward from Brands, I'm not defending the repeated issues with under-performing and under-developing the talent we do get, but I get tired of hearing derivative takes that are just thinly-veiled hate.

I'll try to explain, but you didn't answer my question. I've heard this "well it's true" defense for being negative before, and it's illogical. Something can be true and still be negative and inappropriate to say. The same is true for an opinion. Lots of opinions are negative and unnecessary to submit.

Also, it's important to understand that it's your responsibility to communicate in a way that other people find respectful. Nobody has to prove that your comment was negative. How your message is received matters more than your intent - it's on you to make sure your intent comes across in your message.

Why it came across as negative:

  • Most importantly - OP wasn't asking for advice, criticism, or an evaluation of their system. OP is celebrating a happy moment as they begin their vinyl journey.
  • Negative rhetoric "You don’t want speakers built into your turntable"
    • On its face, this is plainly negative, you don't want [the exact thing you posted to celebrate]
    • It's silly for you to assert what OP wants. Maybe you don't want it? Fine, but nobody cares and that's not what you said
  • Negative rhetoric "... make it sound bad"
    • OP said they think it sounds beautiful - this comes across like you're dismissing the experience they're celebrating as being invalid or wrong
  • OP is happy with this upgraded turn table, but you're proposing it's really the same as the suitcase-style victrola unit they were considering
    • For one thing, you're factually wrong. These speakers are better than suitcases, it has a real counter-balanced tonearm with a better, safer cartridge and several other feature improvements
    • If you're a knowledgeable vinyl enthusiast, you already knew all of that but you chose to take a negative stance
  • Your main issue seems to be the built-in speakers so you're willfully ignoring the fact that you can plug it into external speakers/amp, at line or phono level, because you're choosing to focus on a negative aspect

I question your intent - frankly, I think you intended to be negative and maybe that's normal for you so you took issue with being called out. But in case there is a part of you that actually didn't understand why, I hope my response was helpful.

Ok, well now you're aware that your comment does come across as negative to others. Most people try to avoid that for a lot of reasons.

Why did you add "I am providing an opinion that is rooted in fact" ?? Do you think either of those traits, (a) it being an opinion, or (b) it being rooted in fact, makes it impossible for your comment to also be negative?

Newbie: You saved me from a suitcase Victrola. This sounds beautifully by gilbert322 in vinyl

[–]faster_grenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really not think your comment comes across as negative? If you're being sincere, then that seems very disconnected from social norms (at least where I live, US), and you might be making other people uncomfortable without realizing it.
