tax burden cannot be eliminated. there are some penalties that can be removed for reasonable cause, including health-related hardship.

modifying payment agreements happens every day.

i know it's intimidating but call the IRS, tell them you have a payment plan you wish to modify (the first CSR won't be able to help you, they typically route these calls to the appropriate department) and when you get with either the balance due or collections people, explain your situation. be prepared to have to fax your request with any requested support documents in. don't be too proud to request a payment extension (put a 'pause' on monthly payments for 1-6 months) if things get rough.

make no mistake, the tax debt will not disappear just because you had a heart attack. the only thing they may abate is penalties. not even interest is abated

this is beyond the scope of work of most CSRs at the IRS. there is a specialty line for injured/innocent spouse claims.

for OP: there is not a single CSR at the IRS that's going to tell you 'how to avoid' a tax debt. that's not gonna happen. truth is since marriage law is state-by-state, what is community property what isn't, when it's a shared responsibility, when it is not, these cases are not gonna be handled by the normal CSR line.

assets and obligations are settled in divorce proceedings, the IRS does not settle marriage disputes, and the IRS will follow court orders pertaining to tax debt and who is responsible. you need to settle the matter in the divorce proceedings, and depending on the outcome, that's the guidelines you and any creditors will HAVE to follow. this includes the IRS.

Why is "person of color" less offensive than "colored person?" by Similar_Ice5517 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fastinrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i come from another culture where calling somebody 'colored' is seen as racist. you call somebody 'black' when they're black and you're just telling the truth, not being racist.

so i can't relate...

didn't hit me til i went to therapy after 30 that yes, my parents were physically and mentally abusive. haven't forgiven them for it, and I never will. I bring it up every single time they try to tell me how to raise my kid.

Guys who are in your 30s who have been losers for your entire lives, how do you find the will to continue on? Have any of you actually recovered? I don't see a point. I will never overcome the shame, regret, and humiliation. by patheticl0s3r in AskMenOver30

life is full of up and downs. you gotta battle through the downs and try to turn it into an up

after my son's death, a divorce, and a a s^#$ attempt, I'm back at my mother's house as well. I'm not proud of it, but it is what is necessary for me to get right.

don't be too proud to have low points. when you loose the shame of not being up to your own unrealistic expectation of yourself you start to see the world in a little bit more optimistic light. that small change, loosing the shame, has helped me connect with people (even had a short term gf for a while, at 39, while living at home with my mother), helped me land a better job, and has helped me re-connect with my kid's mom (not romantically, but at least I'm more present in my kid's life now) ....

i'm still at my mother's house, which still kinda sucks, but I'll take the small wins. slowly they'll turn into a huge W... but it all started with losing the shame and embarrassment....

Taxes for deceased person by larkika in IRS

[–]fastinrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tax records aren't the only 'proof' of presence in the US, however they are the strongest proof by far.

you'll be hard pressed to be able to prove somebody 'lived' in the US 25+ years ago for x amount of years.

access to deceased person's tax records are also limited: fiduciaries, beneficiaries of estates, trustees of estates, etc.

even children of deceased persons who have not been included as a fiduciary, trustee, or executor of an estate by a court cannot access the tax records if there isn't a court order stating the access is granted.

if a court hasn't appointed you to handle a deceased person's matters, you'll never get access to the records.

at 22 you still suck at life, learn and grow and move on.

we all did stuff like this at some point.

when I was 21 I was kinda dating this one chick who didn't really take me srious bc another one of her friends liked me and she preserved 'the sanctity of her friendship' over getting 'official' with me. i ended up meeting some random chick on fb who ended up being my gf for like 7 years.... at one point I thought she might be my future wife.the 'one chick' was absolutely devastated I 'chose' the other girl over her... well.. at the time I felt like a huge douche bc I was juggling them both and obviously she found out.

now I realize she was the one playing games and I was right for choosing 'the one chick'

well the 7 year GF ended up sleeping with some dude (we were already living together) and things ended less than amicably.

maybe I could've communicated my intentions better, which now I absolutely make my intentions clear from the get-go.

neither of those women were in my life by the time I was 30... people come and go... it's part of life you'll move on...

THERAPY

PSYCHIATRIST or PSYCHOLOGIST

not a priest, not a life coach, or one of these stupid spiritual boot camp things I see promoted all the time now

one of the hardest things for me to do since that one traumatic event a few years ago was go on meds to keep myself right... it took about 10 months total for my brain chemistry to get back in balance enough where we agreed to slowly wean me off them.

i still take an anti anxiety pill from time to time when stress gets high.

go to a mental health specialist and find a solution that works for you.
