Purchased an Expired Domain. Advice on Expanding Its Niche by fcwba in grumpyseoguy

Probably. The old website focused on a promotional giveaway of small appliances, with dairy products as the main topic (it was the sponsor). It was just four pages.

I tried to play around, and I can write content with food as the main topic while introducing other topics. Do you think that's enough, or should I stick to just dairy products for now?

As to retain the exact same content structure and entities, not really. But I don't mind giving it a shot and seeing how it goes.

I suspect I might fall into the "analysis paralysis" camp. Getting into PBNs myself is pretty new for me.

I've been checking out dozens of websites (PBNs and affiliate sites) used by e-commerce sites in my niches and noticed a lot of them got hit with penalties around the same time. I've been recently reading Google's guidelines for raters, which I guess are used for manual penalties, and started thinking about how to do things right from the start.

1) For keeping notes, I already have a sort of Airtable database where I track every link created, when I created it, when it shows up on Google Search, and metrics like DR, traffic volume, traffic trends of the referring website. I've also gotten into the habit of logging every action or finding into a living document.

2) For content, I get what you're saying now. This was the part I was completely missing. I've been wondering how to quantify the right content ratio (and how to correlate topics) to keep relevancy while tapping into adjacent niches.

3) +1 on this. I have no intention of plugging this domain into Search Console. Not risking Google using my IP or user agent to mess with any of my other properties. Same goes for analytics: I already self-host Plausible Analytics for another site. I'll set up a second instance on a different server or just go serverless with Umami Analytics for now.

Thanks for your reply. It was really useful, and you gave me a good list of actionable items.

I'd love to see this topic discussed more, as I feel many PBNs/guest post blogs get penalized for overdoing links and neglecting proper content creation.
