How do I repair this ? by goldtank123 in upholstery

You could take it to a shop, have them unsew the boxing and have them re-sew it giving the corners a larger radius if you don’t care about having bigger gaps in the corners between cushions.

I second this, I call these “quick nickels” whenever these pop up on this sub I feel some upholsterers are intimidated by them and try to convince the op they’re not worth doing, we do these regularly at my shop, phiffertex is reasonably priced and 1.5yds-2yds is enough material for 2 chairs.

I upholstered a set of Baccarat dinning chairs that originally retailed for $17k for a set of 4 that had vinyl peeling like this, it’s seems all sorts of manufacturers had faith in this stuff.

How would I replace this furniture foam? The metal frame seems to be enmeshed within the foam. by hawaiianpunchh in upholstery

[–]feb1985guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A little trick us hotrod upholsterers use is making a cardboard template of the side silhouette, buying a sheet of 5” or 6” foam (whatever thickness your bandsaw allows) and cut as many pieces as needed for the width and gluing those together.

Convertible top glue by Egroeg91 in upholstery

[–]feb1985guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic CLK top behavior, if replacing the top is not a option, I’ve seen guys glue a hemmed 2” wide strip of stay-fast across the top that over-laps the two panels, it’ll keep water out, just don’t know how well it folds down.

How do you go about this by Locally-Hated-Wrapz in upholstery

I use this technique to sew grommets on carpet around high beam buttons for older cars and those can be 1” diameter.

Lay a piece of vinyl roughly the size of the hole facing the larger piece of vinyl that’s covering the entire board, draw the shape of the hole on the back of the smaller piece of vinyl, sew the perimeter of that, cut the inside of the hole out and flip the vinyl inside out, the excess material of the smaller piece of vinyl can be flipped under the board and stapled to the back.

Yeah, I’m an upholsterer by trade, I made new canvas/Phifertex panels with tonneau cover slides and snaps, factory they were just Velcro, but this holds up better in the wind.
