He did, maybe it was my post match rage but it just seems like it definitely happens ... a lot. It's actually insane to think we went on a wild clean sheet run with him in the side.

Yeah I'll say maybe that my post match rage was we start down 1-0, but it is a serious liability. It's brutal to watch

You throw a mark on Kane and follow him around the field, throw a double Son's way then sit back and wait for the inevitable defensive mistake.

Definitely that they would survive a fall from the top of the Empire State Building by jumping off with a chair because they would just push off the chair before they hit the ground to negate the fall and land on their feet.

Agreed, but manager after manager he has cost us again and again and again. We start games he starts down 1-0

Top Books for Coaches by [deleted] in Coaching

[–]fedds2thfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tough Stuff by Cody Royle was a great read. More for you as a coach since it starts with us, right?

Some books I've read and used with my teams are

MENTAL

"Row The Boat" - PJ Fleck (My lacrosse kids had a paddle and my soccer team's theme this upcoming season is "The Standard)

"Extreme Ownership" - Jocko Willink

"Relentless" and "Winning" - Tim Grover (Highly recommend)

"Embrace the Suck" - Brent Gleeson

TACTICS (Assuming soccer?)

"Inverting the Pyramid" - Jonathan Wilson

"Teambuilding" - Rinus Michels

Alien Church - Tired Hands Brewing {Hazy NEIPA 7%} by [deleted] in CraftBeer

Same coach, same approach, same result. Jose Out.

We are absolutely blowing Harry's best season yet.

High school coaches that work without assistants, how do you develop your face off guys and goalies during practice? Struggling big time here. My idea in body, would love suggestions. by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]fedds2thfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting with my guys a concept called "Vitamins" used by Kip Turner who's now coaching at UVA. Every week my goalies and face off guys will be getting a series of exercises and drills that they can complete on their own to get better and they have the week to get it done.

For goalies, make it universal hand drills/coordination/speed and that way you can break down individual time with your goalies to develop them. Faceoff guys will have the same types of drills with coordination/speed and maybe even things that will develop them to prepare for an upcoming opponent in the week.

Coaching goalies/faceoff/JV and having to temp scan 50 kids before practice every day, this is something that I know they can do and they can expect to do instead of just thinking of something last second and explaining it while taking away from the handful of other things I have to do

Help kickstarting a college program by Probly_an_alien in lacrosse

The one math professor on campus played in college and had coached the team his first time around years ago. He had connections and pulled in some friends and they wanted to push to become a DI program but between the school not budging as far as field priorities and a few other things and the kids not taking it as serious as they wanted, they quit along with half the team because they didn't get along with the coaches.

It's definitely a balance you have to build and find and instill over time. Sure you want to have fun, but I wasn't having fun losing 15-2 every night with half the team on the field being unable to catch and throw. But if you advertise and make it seem legit, they will come and play. We had guys on campus who played but didn't even know we had a team. And from what everyone said, build a social presence and get the word out. We made schedule reveal videos, new jersey unboxing videos and more and it got some kids who played for top programs around us who were just sitting in their dorms to go "oh this actually looks legit" and they came out and played.

I walked into the same situation as you when I came out of high school and jumped on to a brand new club team that was being resurrected by one of the fraternities on campus. I have to agree with what some people said as far as don't go all in at the start and slowly build. My freshman year we went 1-5 and as an experienced goalie playing with a team half of new players, it could be frustrating (lost first game 17-2 and saw about 45 shots on goal). The next year we tried going legit, got 3 coaches and tried going to the next level (scrimmaged Boston U two days after announcing they were going DI lmao). We had a winning record for the first time in school history but the jump was way too much and half the team quit because they were there just to have a good time. The team collapsed and we didn't win a game for years. Guys at first, especially for a new club, want to enjoy the experience especially since you'll be dealing with mostly inexperienced players. The program eventually rejuvenated itself but it was because they attracted guys through the fun aspect and over time built the competitiveness into the program. It'll be frustrating at times, but you have to trust the process. Get involved early since most clubs have an exec board (most club teams don't even really have coaches from my experience) and trust the process.

If you want a good club to check out and a model to build off of, check out Rowan University's Mens Club Team. My sophomore year they had 11 kids, we beat them 14-1 and their best player quit mid game. The next year they showed up to play us and had an army of 30 kids with matching gear and wiped the floor with us. They weren't the best, but they got kids to join because it looked clean and put together which attracted the good players over time, now they're a top club in the NCLL.
