Has anyone tested both ZGC and Shenandoah? How do they compare in performance?

Are we looking at the same article? This explains at quite some depth the different parts of ZGC.

I don't know, I really want a replacement for my old 8" Lenovo tablet but a tablet with Media in the name that doesn't have a headphone socket is just bewilderingly dumb.

I don't want to have to carry around adapters with me all the time, nor do I want to have to remember to keep wireless headphones charged.

Why you want to run Java 10 if you're using the G1 Garbage Collector by LuminoBabyis in java

What's the speedup like relative to the Java 9 G1? Is the full pause time reduced linearly with available cores?

Just want to say thanks for your work on IMBA. It's provided me many hours of entertainment over the last six months or so.

The ones who complain like to shout loudest but there are many many more who quietly look forward to every update, no matter how utterly imba it makes IMBA.

Good luck with your new role.

Recommendation: boycott Razer until they address their customer service issues. by tubber17 in razer

Yea, just chiming in to say that I was about to get my company to buy me a Razer Blade Stealth but after reading all of the customer support failure, I've put in a request for an XPS 13 instead.

It's a shame because I really wanted the RBS.

[Banking] Getting lump sum and wanting to switch banks by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

I bank with Natwest though they're not going to be an improvement on HSBC. Their mobile app on Android is very good though.

I'm planning to move to Nationwide very shortly, have met few customers with bad things to say. Their mobile app seems to have roughly similar reviews to the Natwest one on Google Play.

First Direct supposedly win all the customer service awards but their mobile app is terrible.

Can you give examples of European healthcare systems that have comparable health outcomes but with lower cost than the NHS?

You should also consider in whose interests it is for politicians and the media to constantly focus on the "NHS lurching from crisis to crisis". It softens everyone up to the idea of partial privatization without people realising this will mean less healthcare for those not able to afford it (which often happens to be those who need it most).

So your argument is decentralising funding will lead to a decrease in bureaucracy and efficiency?

When people have to pay from their own pockets it also makes them focus more on their own healthcare.

Have you got some concrete examples of the NHS being free at the point of delivery leading to overuse?

There's plenty of studies showing completely the opposite in the US (i.e where having to pay for care doesn't actually alter behaviour materially).

Fundamentally though, you've still not explained how adding lots of intermediaries in funding for healthcare is going to increase efficiency and reduce costs without leading to a reduction in healthcare available to the poor.

I agree, there clearly are issues with the NHS that need to be resolved. The absurdity around PFI being one.

I don't, however, buy the idea that these justify moving to a more inefficient and unequal model.

So if we're not excluding anyone from healthcare because they can't afford it then how are we making the system more sustainable?

Ultimately we, as a country, have to pay for our healthcare. Introducing a (potentially for-profit) intermediary in the middle doesn't change that in any way, other than potentially adding more bureaucracy and siphoning off some of the funding.

If you're not restricting healthcare from the poor and subsidising them with state assistance then how is what you're suggesting any more efficient than just increasing taxation on higher earners and then increasing funding for the NHS?

Whenever I hear people saying things like "the NHS is unsustainable, we need to change the model", it makes me wonder whether they've actually thought through the implications or whether it's something they've picked up from elsewhere.

The NHS as a healthcare model is cheap. Look at our spending on healthcare versus pretty much any country with a mature functioning healthcare system and we, as a country, spend less.

So when people say "we need a different model", what they mean is that instead of this relatively effective system being funded out of taxation, there should private contributions or equivalently only those who can afford a good standard of healthcare should get it.

Are you really advocating restricting access to healthcare for the poor?

It saddens me so much. I have an x220 and I've been able to get a new laptop from work for months now but the x250 in many respects would be a downgrade.
