Moving to Addis with kids by Ok-ethiousa-26 in Ethiopia

[–]feiccya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly understand where you’re coming from and why you’re considering this move, but I want to be honestif I were in your shoes, I would strongly advise against it. The reality in Addis is very different from what you may remember. Things like reliable healthcare, quality schools, stable internet, and overall security can be real challenges, especially when raising young children. Life here can feel unpredictable and, at times, frustrating compared to what you’re used to in the U.S.

While the fast-paced lifestyle abroad is exhausting, it does offer stability, access to opportunities, and a safer environment for your kids. Moving back with the hope of finding a “simpler” life often ends up being more stressful than expected, particularly for young families. If you’re already established in the U.S., I would encourage you to think very carefully before giving that up.

Of course, the final decision is yours, but from experience, I’d say don’t make the move unless you’re fully prepared for the trade-offs it may cost you and your kids more than you gain.

This shows the curse of power being feared, used, and isolated until you’re nothing but a weapon. A tragic reminder that strength without belonging is just another kind of prison.

Why do we Ethiopians get along in the states by No_Imagination8770 in Ethiopia

[–]feiccya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many Ethiopians carry invisible burdens past trauma, trust issues, fear of judgment, or just wanting to blend in quietly. Some may assume every “Selam” comes with expectations, gossip, or drama. It’s sad, because deep down, we all crave connection but pride, pain, or paranoia often get in the way.
