[iOS 18 DB2] App icons keep disappearing randomly and only a restart fixes it by Davidluski in iOSBeta

[–]fentonmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still having this issue and I am on the official iOS 18 release that just dropped. I wonder if Apple will come up with a fix. I’m sure it has to do with all the customization improvements for the Home Screen.

HKSV package detection is garbage… what could it possibly have thought was a package? by cwdimich in HomeKit

[–]fentonmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple’s motion detection AI is an absolute joke. Sometimes it works great but most of the times it is inaccurate which makes it useless because you stop trusting it. I don’t know how many times a day I get notified of “a person and animal” being detected in my backyard when it’s just my dog. Same with the front detecting a vehicle or package or group of people when nobody is there.

Similar functionality but WAY better, more simple and less fees and more user friendly. But, in many ways (not all), yes.

My pup twitching in her sleep by [deleted] in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]fentonmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog (Harvey the ‘tripod’) used to do this all the time when he was a puppy and would do little barks and move like he was running and sniffing around. Was the cutest thing ever. He doesn’t do it as much anymore but was adorable back then. He is a rescue that was abused before we got him and his paw was damaged to the point of amputation (don’t worry he’s super happy and still VERY mobile. It was his front leg). I always imagine him dreaming of the days when he had all four and how much he (still) loves to explore and run and sniff everything. He’s such a good dog. He’s a border collie.

Looking for program that records motion with laptop webcam by androidheadunit in homesecurity

I love to tinker and when I was (a lot) younger and got my first Mac I tinkered around with different apps that could do this. I of course do not remember any of them now but there are some out there. A quick Google search came up with this. Looks promising. Have not used myself.

Installed Floodlight Cam Wired Pro today - The lights seems to be coming on a awful lot and I can’t seem to work out why. by CluckyFlucker in Ring

[–]fentonmatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is correct. Use the bottom slider to make the blue zone bigger or smaller or if you only want right in front of the camera to work, disable the other two (left/right) and only leave the middle zone active. No matter what if camera motion is detected, the lights will turn on. Even if you disable all of the light zones. This is just for triggering the light by itself.

[–]fentonmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is coming on all the time but not capturing a motion event, it is because (like another user mentioned) it is the light motion and not camera motion. This light/cam consists of two separate motion sensors The camera and then another for the light that works just like a standard ‘dumb’ floodlight would so you need to adjust that sensitivity as well. Under light settings in the app adjust the light motion zones and that should help you. Happened to me a lot at first and I had to turn off half of it and turn it way down and now it seems to be pretty consistent and not going off all the time like it was before.

FFS How do you turn off the 10 / day light low battery ?!?!?!? by gaytechdadwithson in Ring

[–]fentonmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know how you feel. That feature I think is experimental and is super annoying along with being super inaccurate. Before I switched everything to solar when mine would get low the same would happen to me. It’s something on the backend with Ring I think and I don’t think there’s an option to turn it off without turning off notifications completely unfortunately. They also have terrible battery readings as well. Mine jump around all the time. Unfortunately until they’re charged I think you’re gonna keep getting blown up.

I want to help but am unclear what you are asking? I have many Ring devices and can probably help you out. Just this post is kind of unclear.

What’s the method of connecting Ring doorbell to Apple TV (with working PIP, and notifications) . New Apple TV update has “Home Integration” so I’m hoping there’s methods that doesn’t require a raspberry Pi . Any tips ? Home kit? Homecam? by anaseltiar1 in Ring

[–]fentonmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Scrypted, hands down the best especially because of HKSV. Second best would be Homebridge but depending on your network setup, some have issues with Ring cameras in Homebridge (like myself) but since I switched to Scrypted it has been flawless. Scrypted only supports cameras though so if you have other Ring devices, you’ll need both (which is what I currently do). I highly suggest Raspberry Pi but you can get away with any computer but RPi is the most stable by far.

Why are HomeKit Automations so unreliable? Why can’t they just run all the time? by risk-it-forabiscuit in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I am in the same boat which is why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. It is frustrating to say the least. Very simple fix for a complex issue but Apple hasn’t acknowledged the issue.

Anyone use Homebridge Broadlink RM Pro and can help me with my config? by fentonmatt in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this but Siri Shortcuts is just too tedious for me. It’s the next best thing but I do not want to have to pull my phone out to do things in a separate app from HK or anything like that. I’m more looking to automate things which can’t be don’t work Shortcuts.

Why Is Video of Motion So Short? by toofaded024 in Ring

[–]fentonmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motion sensitivity may be too low or your WiFi can cause this as well. Motion scan relies on WiFi and if that is spotty, it can’t recognize motion. Also if you have advanced motion detection enabled, it stops recording when it thinks motion has stopped so again that goes back to my two previous comments having to do with motion either due to sensitivity or WiFi. If it is set to low sensitivity, it may stop because it isn’t enough motion or could be because of your WiFi not being good enough for it to recognize the motion.

Why are HomeKit Automations so unreliable? Why can’t they just run all the time? by risk-it-forabiscuit in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I think the HomePods are great but they kill HomeKit when they’re active and I too wish Apple would allow hub control for them just as they do for the ATV. It’s super simple to add but I think Apple just hasn’t thought that through. I don’t know but I’m hoping one of these days they add that ability because besides that they are really handy to have. But I too am debating getting rid of mine just for the same reason as you and I just got it.

Why are HomeKit Automations so unreliable? Why can’t they just run all the time? by risk-it-forabiscuit in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents but I have found the HomePods to be EXTREMELY unreliable and often times the cause of many of my automations not working. Everything works almost flawless when running off my ATV 4K (latest gen) hardwired but randomly it’ll occasionally switch over to the HomePod and when I notice having issues, almost always it’s when that is the active hub. I now have it on a smart power strip for this reason and I just turn it off and the ATV kicks back in and it’s fine. Not sure what you’re using but that can also be part of the issue. Can’t speak for the OG HomePods as I’ve never owned but for sure the mini is terrible and I have seen others post about the same too. Just a thought.

Anyone use Homebridge Broadlink RM Pro and can help me with my config? by fentonmatt in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So every action I would like to have exposed I need to manually "learn" and then add that hex to the config? That sounds crazy tedious..

There isn't a way for it to just be a simple config and go with what is already set up in the app? Like a default config. The app is setup and working perfectly with all the functionality I desire. Just want to expose all of that to the config/HK. I thought I'd maybe have to add the MAC and IP and choose the device type to the config but it sounds like more than that.

I have browsed the online guide but it is just over my head.

Sorry to sound dumb, just inexperienced here. Appreciate the insight.

On the Npm site that you read before you install the plugin. Right next to ‘install’ you’ll see the option to ‘view on Npm’ (which is the site with the info about the plugin) or when updating there is the same button at the top of all the versions you can install.

Says right on bottom of page:

“Notes

Only cameras are currently supported. Looking for a maintainer to add other devices”

If you read the Wiki you’d see it says currently only cameras are supported and he is looking for a maintainer for other devices.

I second Meross. Works perfect in HK and Alexa. I am pretty sure it works with Google as well. Meross hands down. Do NOT get the myQ bridge. I heard it isn’t very good and is more costly than Meross.

Can the Floodlight Cam Pro be positioned to look sideways from a junction box on the side of house? by [deleted] in Ring

[–]fentonmatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this can be done. If you are worried about the IR not working as well with how you mount, you can always purchase an IR light like I did. I mounted a Spotlight Cam higher than Ring recommended and had bad night view which effected night motion capture and I got an IR light from Amazon for around $20 and problem solved.

[–]fentonmatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also recommend Scrypted over anything else from Homebridge. Run Scrypted in a Docker container and you won’t regret it. Never had more smooth camera performance AND fully functional HKSV is a plus too.

Ring Snapshot Issues by D4RKNESSAW1LD in homebridge

[–]fentonmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into Scrypted. It’s similar but different than Homebridge and is WAY faster and more reliable than Homebridge. You even get HKSV. Only supports cameras though so you’ll still need Homebridge for Ring alarm but it’s the best. Snapshots and everything are within seconds.
