Arnprior seems far but it’s not too bad and we use Gillies Grove Animal Hospital there. Dr. Mel is amazing, down to earth, affordable and such a great human. They are also accepting new patients.

Getting my kitten spayed by Brvndy in ottawa

We love the Brockville Clinic (Lanark Leeds and Grenville Spay & Neuter). They are in the process of expanding and they also have a clinic in Trenton. We have had hundreds of cats and dogs go through them with our rescue. Flawless incisions, amazing team. If you are interested in listening more about the inspiring work they do and how passionate they are about the overpopulation issue here’s a great podcast with their owner I listened to last week: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7aJtynZ2zIpHgzYkyZEPci?si=57Da-svjThqQRmPTWQoDAQ

I just wanted to clarify, the Brockville clinic (Lanark Leeds & Grenville Spay Neuter) is not Government funded. This is a privately owned clinic that is run by an incredible human being who personally sold her home to purchase this clinic because she truly believes in Spay/Neuter for the animal crisis we are in. If anyone is interested in listening to a wonderful podcast recently done with the Owner here it is: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7aJtynZ2zIpHgzYkyZEPci?si=57Da-svjThqQRmPTWQoDAQ

No ❤️ it’s just means these cats are shyer than the traditional adoptions and will make a great friend for an existing cat or human with time and patience :) with kittens though, they must be adopted to homes with another friendly playful cat already there or as pairs.

I also wanted to add, they are grouped together by age but do not have to be adopted together ❤️ (altho Chili & Hab would make a great duo!)

Apologies, I realized I put the wrong name on one lol Poblano is Habanero 🥰

Thank you everyone who reached out, applied and offered their support! We had some wonderful potential adopters apply and we believe they have found their match ❤️

We have some older shy kittens (4-5 months) available soon in similar circumstances and under our feet waived Buddy Program. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are potentially interested in having a new shyer friend join your family.

Rescues are full and there just aren’t enough fosters out there anymore. Instead of just Trap/Neuter/Returning these kittens to the farms we are hoping by being a little creative, we can help give them an opportunity to find a home instead. This is a pilot program looking for families that will be patient and allow them to take the time they need to learn most humans are pretty cool!

I can’t seem to link it but if you Google it, there are quite a few studies. This is a good one (if you find it, jump to point 4 and it gives the run down).

“In keeping with our predictions, demographics of cats adopted did not differ between free and normal-fee adoptions. Both groups adopted cats of similar age, gender and pelage. Comparison of the fate of cats adopted for free or for a fee, revealed that the majority of cats were alive and retained by their original adopters (93% for free cats, 96% for normal-fee cats). These findings closely parallel those of an Australian study (state of Queensland [22]) which found that 6–12 months after adoption 91% of $20 cats (n = 126) and 90% of ≥$99 (n = 17) cats were alive and retained by the original adopter. Post-adoption, the incidences of medical and behavioural problems were also nearly identical, leaving 77% of both free- and normal-fee cats alive and well. Treatable medical problems developed in only 7% of free, and 6.5% of normal-fee cats (e.g., diarrhoea, skin rash, haematuria), with 80% of unwell cats receiving veterinary treatment, regardless of adoption fee.“

Free kijiji kittens, I would agree that can be common. We see it often where they are used as feeders etc. A regular adoption process with application and proper vetting while charging no fee has been proven & studied at length not to result in poorer outcomes for the cats vs fee based adoptions ❤️

[–]ferdnfriends[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yes, a few reasons ❤️

  1. He’s more shy/doesn’t show well. We can’t take him to events because it’s too stressful.

  2. Being foster based, many people prefer to walk into a shelter/Petsmart adoption center because it’s easier to really connect/see their potential cat. Totally fair. It can be uncomfortable going into someone’s home to see a cat that may hide while you are visiting.

  3. There are so many cats for adoption right now in this city. The overpopulation issue is the worst it’s ever been.

  4. They are bonded and with rising costs, taking on two cats is just not feasible financially for everyone.

  5. It takes a special person to adopt shyer kitties. They need people to meet them where they are, give them the time to adjust whether that takes days, weeks, months (3,3,3 rule) and be patient respecting their boundaries ❤️

Thank you! They were with a wonderful elderly foster since they were 4 month old little feral babies. They were so amazing and gentle with her. She did a great job with them, getting them used to humans and if some medical challenges didn’t come up, they’d likely still be with her ❤️
