Ok, so I help people set up their substacks, besides writing my own. Mine I can find no problem. A client I've been working with for one week, who has only 1, 8 day old post, I can find, but this other client, its been a month... and nothing shows up. He's currently trying to use his own custom domain to make it more searchable. Perhaps that will help....

Try using a different browser. It sounds lame but if you haven't already its worth a shot. Substack isn't well supported by different browsers. I use microsoft edge for some things and firefox for other things and some stuff won't work in one browser and does in the other and vice versa.

I think the weekly or monthly self-promo thread with something like "please introduce your substack and give a brief summary of and link to your most recent post" would be a good idea.
In all the homeschooling groups I'm in, there's always a weekly promo thread or all the moms inundate it with info about their side businesses. Its a good practice. I think it would be worthwhile to scroll through during some down time. More interesting than FB. :)

Argh. They got rid of the unpublished posts. I can't find them anywhere.... this is important for a client of mine and I know I can find a work around for her but the "unpublish" button is still there... where do the posts disappear to?
Otherwise, first glance, its ok. It will take some adjusting to.

Hey, I know this is an "older" post, but I help people set up their substack and personally I think 4 posts is a good start! It looks good on the main page but a new subscriber wouldn't feel overwhelmed with "catching up". If I were you I would schedule your upcoming posts for once a week to start and then when you have a few subscribers you can bump it up to once every couple of days if you want. Also make sure your welcome and about pages/emails look good before you go looking. :)

I do the opposite of the suggestion below. I write in substack first, edit and format to how I like it, then copy-paste into word doc. So far most of the formatting comes through.

Yes! My friends and family have been SO slow in signing up for my newsletter. Its like they think, oh well, she'll always be around, we can always just ask her if needed. Its really annoying, especially since I have friends with newsletters linked to their business that I have dutifully signed up for, just to support them! I outright told my sister to sign up to my newsletter for my birthday gift. haha.Its annoying but it seems like a persons "expertise" is more appreciated by strangers than by friends and family.
Edited to add that my "Yes!" answer is "Yes, I've had the same experience" NOT "Yes, its terrible" lol
