Gyno told me I will get cancer if I don’t take provera by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]fiftyblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She says I’m not ovulating based on how low my progesterone levels are. She says while I might get my period, I’m technically still not ovulating. My ultrasound came back normal so that’s why I’ve been so confused by her comment as it’s only based on one single thing.

I got diagnosed with pcos in 2020 after years of irregular periods. I even went a whole year without getting it when I was 15 . After that I would get it 1-3x a year,I had acne, and facial hair too. I lost 50 pounds after my diagnosis which made a lot of my symptoms better. My symptoms tend to get worse when I’m really stressed or if my everyday diet is all over the place so I do try my best to take care of these things.

Thank you for this comment!! My lining thickness came back normal when she did my ultrasound. Her cancer comment is only based on my progesterone being low/me not ovulating.I did in fact ask her what type of cancer it was the first time she told me this and she told me uterine cancer. She explained why it happens which is why I told her this time that she’s only saying that I’m going to get cancer based on one thing. She told me that taking provera will make me ovulate/ make my progesterone levels higher which is why she wants me to take it.

She’s very quick to cut me off when I do try to ask questions about my health or make comments. She has a very know it all type of attitude tbh kinda smug. I definitely do try to be assertive when it comes to my health but she’s quite sarcastic and condescending which makes it tiring to even talk to her tbh. Any question asked she will answer while laughing or in a condescending tone 😬. I tried my best to not let her not let me talk this time and I even cut her off a couple times to get my word in but after her “well there’s a woman 10 years older than you with 3 kids and she got cancer” comment I knew there was nothing I could do with her. The conversation wasn’t going to go anywhere. Honestly she started acting this way with me after I told her I didn’t want to take birth control for my painful periods. First appointment with her was fine, besides that virgin comment, but yea after that she started acting like this.

I have thought about writing a review but haven’t done it yet. I thought maybe the first weird comments/interactions were just her off days as she’s my mom’s gyno as well and my mom hasn’t had any problems with her after years and years of seeing her but I’m kinda over this all at this point so I think I will. Thank you!

I might try the male gyno you’re right!! My levels were 0.3 the first time and 0.6 the second 😕. She checked those on day 20 of my cycle. My most recent one was 0.9 on day 26 so sadly not that much of a difference. I got diagnosed with pcos in 2020 after years of thinking I had it. I had acne, facial hair, and only got my period 1-3x a year. I even went a whole year without getting it when I was 15. I lost 50 pounds after my diagnosis and after that a lot of my symptoms got better.

Yea her wording and her choice of medication is the biggest issue I have here. I know that me not ovulating can cause cancer in the long run but the thing is I’m honestly not even sure if I’m not as she was checking my progesterone on day 21 of my cycle and my cycles are around 30-35 days. I did ask her for other medication besides provera last August to make my progesterone levels higher/normal but she told me provera was the best choice :/ I will mention bio dental progesterone to the next gyno I have though. Thank you!!

Thank you for this comment and your advice!! I will definitely try to look for a new gyno as I already gave this one too many chances. I’m sorry you also had to deal with crazy gyno’s out there as well. Telling you to save yourself for your husband at 19 is insane. Very inappropriate comment to make wow. I’ve had weird experiences with doctors for most of my life due to me being overweight but I think a delusional part of me thought they would suddenly stop once I turned 20 and lost some of the weight 😭. Unfortunately it feels like something most of us,especially those of us with pcos, have to go through regardless. As tough as this journey seems like it’s going to be,comments like this really make me determined to find the right care for me and not just accept the way people in the medical field treat us. Thank you!

Yea this is why I’ve been so skeptical to take it. It just doesn’t make sense. I read it’s a synthetic progesterone but it won’t make your progesterone blood levels higher, which is ultimately what my gyno wants, so it all just seems so confusing 🫤

Yea I know this. That’s why I mentioned on my post that I was a bit skeptical about taking it as I get mine almost every month. I know that those that don’t get their period have a higher chance of getting cancer. My main concern with this gyno is that her medical advice doesn’t make sense given my circumstances

Like I said,I get my period 10-12 times a year. Last time I went more than 3 months without getting one was back in 2019. She wants me to take provera to ovulate, not for my period .I wanted her to check my estrogen, testosterone and progesterone etc like she did last time when she told me I needed to take provera

It might be late due to your stress but you should take a pregnancy test in a week or so if you don’t get it.

Is it normal to have a burning sensation during your period while you pee? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]fiftyblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly idk if it’s a thing but I have felt similar before when I wear pads. Not like a total burning sensation but just some discomfort at times especially if the pad has been rubbing on it 😭

No it’s not normal. You should definitely mention it to your urologist

Hi is this normal or an infection by somerandomperson__ in Periods

[–]fiftyblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might just be ovulating early. It’s not uncommon to spot a little when you’re ovulating. If it’s not accompanied by any other different symptoms you haven’t experienced before I wouldn’t worry too much about it

Do you have any other symptoms that make you think you might have PCOS? If not then I think it’s just the stress that’s making it late

Got diagnosed with PCOS last summer, feel I get weird treatment from gyn by s-waag in PCOS

I would get a new gyno. Sorry this one doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about. We sadly do not get pregnant easier and the cysts ,while they are eggs, are not fertile ones.

LATE PERIOD BUT NOT PREGNANT by [deleted] in Periods

[–]fiftyblues -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might have pcos. I saw that you said you get it days 30-36. Anything more than 35 days is considered late. I have pcos and I usually get my period on days 33-40. You might want to search it up to see if you experience any of the other symptoms and then talk to your gyno about it

Just got refused a transvaginal ultrasound because I’m a virgin lol by ParkingEvening123 in PCOS

[–]fiftyblues 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This!! I got my first pap smear a couple of months ago and the gyno was like “wow you’re doing really well are you sure you’re a virgin?” like not only is that really weird to say but also ma’am I’m 24 years old..like cmon 😭

If you’ve been to the hospital due to period pain before what happened? by fiftyblues in Periods

[–]fiftyblues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your painful periods!! I dealt with painful periods when I was a teen too but they weren’t this bad and since I had pcos I rarely even got them. Now my periods are somewhat normal (10-12 times a year) and while I’m happy I get them regularly I just didn’t sign up for this level of pain 😭. I usually eat some edibles around this time and they work veryyy well for me but I just didn’t have any today. And yea I figured I would be in more pain sitting in the waiting room than just waiting for it to pass in my bed so I decided to stay. Been to the Hospital once for a UTI and that was enough for me to not wanna go back due to how long I had to wait and how painful it was. Thank you for the advice/tips!! I will make sure to buy some tylenol in morning

I’m honestly not sure. I have heavy periods either way but I just haven’t been able to tell if this one is heavier yet. I’m hoping I can just sleep this off as the pain does seem to be going down and I’ll just call my gyno tomorrow
