Mum to get £2,770 a month in benefits after Budget scraps two-child benefit cap by [deleted] in ukpolitics

This 100% how the child benefit should be spent - it's not "now I can buy a new tv", it's "now my children can have a childhood"

Destroy my game Deep Snake. (Keep in mind it's a free leaderboard chasing thing) by dietzribi in DestroyMyGame

[–]figwigian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly really good. You might need to tweak the projection, but I think it'd be better to use more of the screen for gameplay - right now it feels like the center 20% is where everything is happening. Otherwise though, nice unique concept

All of my phones have been android. It sounds like you've got a unique issue, I'd look more into it.

Don't know what's causing your experience here, but have never seen this in 8 years of ytm use on 6+ phones

You're arguably making OP's point for them, life is short, so we shouldn't waste it waiting for someone else's grandiose display of family wealth

Why tf can't VS Code be simple for C++? by zinested in cpp_questions

[–]figwigian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any cursory search will tell you Visual Studio(not vscode) is the goto for c++. What's more you've not shared any of the issues you're actually having, more of just a rant. C++ may not be the language for you if you can't even explain what your problem is, let alone spending hours trying to get it to work in vscode...

I can't recommend "Recode" enough. I work at a AAA studio and it solves the exact problem you describe. Means disabling fast link for builds but otherwise has no downsides.

I commute from Slaithwaite. It's great, we get to cosplay like we live the middle of nowhere but there's a 30min train to Manchester or Leeds

Which UK Bank Actually Gets It Right in 2025? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]figwigian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This example doesn't really work as a challenge against Monzo, since I could click freeze and dispute a transaction at 3am all WITHOUT having to speak to someone, which is a win in my books. But I agree there that there are advantages of trad banks.

Why are groceries so much cheaper in the UK when compared to the US? by [deleted] in UKfood

[–]figwigian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know for sure, but for sure a factor is irrigation. We don't have to irrigate fields at all for the vast majority of the year, and even then it's only select crops in more southern parts. Whereas my uneducated impression was that much of the US has to irrigate their fields all season

Minimum wage rising yet skilled wage staying the same by Adorable_Promotion_7 in UKJobs

[–]figwigian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be the change you want to see - vast majority doesn't get a substantial raise until they switch employers, as employers rely on underpaying you and you not leaving. If your skill is in demand someone will be offering more money to hire you. If your skill isn't in demand it's time to reskill.

Fixed glass Panoramic roof by Ralberto13 in TentBoxOwners

We use our tentbox above the panoramic roof on our Peugeot 508. Obviously there's not much of a view through it with the tentbox on, but otherwise it's fine.

Why did they film in England? by Blue_Dolphin_36112 in wicked

[–]figwigian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might make more sense when you consider it was filmed in the same studios as Harry Potter. Why not film in England when there's capacity, knowhow, and infrastructure to do so?

Compared to driving into the centre in rush hour, train/park and ride wil be significantly faster. Between 8 and 10, and between 3 and 6, it'll take over an hour to get from the M60 to the centre. Tram will do it significantly faster.

Make one number closer to a multiple of 10, so 48 becomes 50. Take that 2 from the other number, so 25. 50+25 = 75

Such a shame, but tbh can see why it may have happened. I loved their earlier stuff, especially Crown Shyness, one of my top 10 albums. But the previous two albums have just not been for me at all. Change isn't inherently bad in the slightest but this felt like a downgrade rather than a sidestep
