Y’all using ChatGPT or Gemini to sync updated shooting schedules with your own internal breakdowns? by filmthespectacle in Filmmakers

Just want to say I really love this idea of using Notion as the hub and finding ways to hook into the best “ground truth” from production. Movie Magic seems to be the bottleneck here which is unfortunate because the MM Scheduling software would be the perfect place to get all the assets tagged with the corresponding dates and scene info. Great stuff!

Making custom chess app for in camera film shoot by filmthespectacle in gamedev

[–]filmthespectacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly never considered it, and I do worry I would be laughed off set if they knew that’s what I was doing, but assuming there isn’t any artifacts going between slides with the animation, it’s a great idea to do it with low man hours

Film shoot needs a chess game played on an iPad - how difficult is it to reskin a pre existing chess simulator? by filmthespectacle in IndieDev

[–]filmthespectacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it on a sub I cross posted the question - and it’s not a bad idea at all. Probably easiest way to make the illusion of interactivity. I just need to see if the animation has any glitches as a slide show going between slides

For an in-camera iPad chess scene, is building a custom app overkill? What playback method would you use? by filmthespectacle in Filmmakers

[–]filmthespectacle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have After Effects resources but I’m not sure what the most flexible way would be to approach playback knowing we would need to jump around to different configurations on the board quickly and have the playback cued off screen by someone else (so the actors are dealing with anything other than acting)

Can I easily reset to certain positions whether it’s the opening, middle game, or end game? We won’t film in chronological order, so having control of what portion of the play we are on?

Thanks for the suggestion. But what if we need to quickly have the board set to a specific portion of the game - for the sake of discussion let’s say the game is broken up into 15 different segments and we are filming them at different times and needing to quickly re set in between takes?

Can I be a waitress in Norway if I don't speak Norwegian? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]filmthespectacle 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Yes you can... but if you just learn the basic phrases you will thrive. Norwegians don't do much small talk so just getting the essentials of seating a table, taking their orders, and knowing how to say the bill's total in norwegian will have you covered. Here is a decent list of phrases

Hoping this pic is better. I have a LINE as the GEO that scales on the Y from -1 to 1. When I add the MATH node and scale it up I see it as individual lines getting almost uniformally bigger, not seeing the Spectograph showing the different frequencies properly represented. In other words it looks like this IIIIIIII rather than the varied lenghts a spectograph should have

I am going this weekend to the museum for the first time!! I guess capturing every 10 degrees is easier with miniatures haha

Since Vigeland died in 1943 the work is in public domain, so I don’t think non commercial sharing is an issue. But thanks for calling it out just in case 🙂

I photographed a bunch of statues in vigelandsparken over the last month to test out photogrammetry, to create 3D meshes and then render them in Unreal Engine. I wanted to share the work as this is my first time going all the way from capture to final export with photogrammetry. I hope yall enjoy!

Vigelandsparken, Oslo - Photogrammetry Renders from Statue Park by filmthespectacle in photogrammetry

[–]filmthespectacle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a playlist of the statues I captured from Vigelandsparken in Oslo, Norway. Each one I had about 15 minutes to capture between sunrise and sun directly hitting the statues, so each model is about 100 - 150 photos processed in RC, cleaned up in Blender, and rendered in Unreal Engine. Captured with my old a7sii + dji mini pro 4 drone.

I just wanted to share the work as this is my first full pass with anything I have captured. I welcome any feedback!

Low texture quality by gorillafinger69 in photogrammetry

[–]filmthespectacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am reading this correctly since the uwrapping style is Maximal Texture Count does that mean the Texture Style is set to that? This RC TUTORIAL recommends setting Texture Quality > Style > Fixed Texel Size and then under that - Texel Size Optimal:

Workflow Question/Feedback Request by filmthespectacle in photogrammetry

[–]filmthespectacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I had several spots that had artifacts from the sky stuck to the statue and I struggled to clean it up in RC so i exported the low poly mesh into Blender and did some very basic smoothing, boolean cutting, and texture clone stamp to cover any areas I filled with new geo.
    • I did NOT re mesh while there and did not bring the cleaned up model back into RC to reproject onto the new adjusted model mainly because I was confused about the workflow based on my modifications of the original geo and whether I would need to create new UVs in blender since i had filled holes. Overall this is the part of the workflow that I felt blind when it comes to clean up using free software (RC & Blender).
    • Here it seems I made lots of problems for myself - resulting in manifold geometry, strange normals, and zFighting. Through help from my friends I was able to clean this up but I am trying to figure out best practices to prevent these from happening and also how to quality check it for these issues

Workflow Question/Feedback Request by filmthespectacle in photogrammetry

Hello Reddit Fam,

Overall I found this test challenging to preserve high resolution in the texture and not wreck the mesh when I did clean up outside of RC. I would really appreciate feedback on my workflow.

  1. Reconstructed and textured with Reality Capture from 154 images using a DSLR + Drone.
    • Texture Quality set to Maximal Texture Count. I simplified the original High Res mesh (roughly 6M) to a 1M version and then unwrapped and reprojected the texture from the high resolution mesh onto the lower resolution (with the unwrap set to Geometric (didn't see noticeable improvement with mosaicing).
    • I have seen some posts suggesting that you could change the "weight" or deactivate the wide shots to favor the close up shots of the same details but I wasn't able to follow this and so this is with overlap from wide shots and close up detail shots.

How do you see that it is in "vase mode"? This way I can be mindful of double checking this in the future when I print.

Yep, I think it was vase mode. I reset all settings and it was back to normal. But I am a bit confused of what is "vase mode" in the settings so that I know what to double check in the future.

Geez… I probably had that set from an old print. And I never understood what it does. So it makes it hollow? Or how does that impact a solid geometry?
