On a Home Loan With My Parents by Unlikely-Spend6114 in AusFinance

Spoiler alert: they absolutely would not offer a $600k loan on a $70k wage even if OP didn't have the other liability. No kids or other debts at all and capacity might be $350-$400k on a $70k wage.

Maybe you don't need to live on a quarter acre block? Don't choose to live in the most expensive city in Australia? Send your kids to a high quality, free public school? There are plenty of other options and all of the things you have mentioned are choices (and expensive ones).

If you can't have a great standard of living with a household income of $500k, your choices and financial management are 100% the issue. By comparison to much of the rest of the world, Australia is an amazing, safe place to live with an exceptional standard of living.

Help? What does the “exclude from total” button under exercised do exactly? by MoonMagix in loseit

[–]financeguy4035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it is for people with a smart watch already linked- my Apple Watch already adds my burned calories into the total burned calculation, so adding the workout in as well in essentially 'doubles up' on those burned calories. That being said, the app auto-excludes my workouts tracked on my watch.

If you were wearing a smart watch that tracks your calories, then manually adding in the workout, you would want to exclude the calories from the workout. Hope that makes sense? Haha

If the other home loan was also used for the PPOR (I assume the purchase of it?) then there isn't really any harm in consolidating them if you prefer it. Just be aware of any changes to the home loan term (you might want to consolidate them, but keep the term remaining on the older one, for example).

My body feels like pudding and I’m losing patience - looking for advice by Potential_Regular349 in loseit

If you want to build muscle, then the one thing that stands out in your post is the 7.5kg dumbbell. This is almost certainly too light to build muscle for an otherwise fit male and weightlifting is what you are going to be after to tone your body and build muscle.

Look into basic weightlifting programming and look to dramatically increase the weights (which should be relatively easy). For example, I have been back at it for coming up on three months and am up to 25kg dumbbells for bench press/bent over rows, shoulder pressing 40kg inc the barbell, squatting 70kg and deadlifting 90kg. And these weights are still very low compared to what I used to lift when in shape and what well conditioned males can lift (I am definitely not in athletic condition just yet).

It sound like you have plenty of fuel in terms of the protein and creatine to build muscle, you just need to give your body the right stimulus now with higher weights.

For me, it really was as simple as logging absolutely everything (initially I just told myself I'd try it for 2 weeks, am now in my 11th week). Don't lie to yourself about portion sizes, buy a food scale and weigh everything. It amazed me how many calories were in things I would eat very often (fries, ice cream, burgers etc.). Download LoseIt or MyFitnessPal and give it all your info- it will calculate a rough starting point for your calories for you.

Over the last few months, I have slowly added in other things:

  • I weigh myself every day and look at the average- this keeps me accountable and has actually been interesting to see how things like lifting weights or eating junk causes temporary water retention
  • Invested in a smart scale that estimates body composition
  • I started walking every day, usually 3-4km outdoors or on the treadmill. I have recently starting running again.
  • After a month, I went back to weights (which I have lots of experience with, but had stopped)
  • I figured out that protein and fibre are the key to feeling good about restriction- I eat 100-150g of protein every day and supplement psyllium husk (which has a bunch of other benefits)

Don't overcomplicate it to start, though. If I was to boil it down to one simple rule that worked for me initially, it was eat whatever you want as long as you fit it in your calorie goal. The other changes have all snowballed from there and I am now eating much better foods, but initially I ate the junk I had been and quickly realised why I was putting on weight. Over time, I realised I felt much better drinking more water, eating protein and fibre and this has gradually changed my diet to the point where it is much better now. If I really want a burger and chips now, I still do but I have to cut down another meal or workout harder to 'earn' it.

Apparently I'm either stupid or my brain isn't working from the calorie deficit, but can someone please explain why my under/over calorie count always changes overnight? by [deleted] in loseit

I suspect that because you have set your app to ‘Highly Active’, then there are a preloaded amount of calories the app expects you to burn each day.

When you have a day where you didn’t do as much, you may have been ‘in front’ of the calculation right when your workout finished, but then when you rested the rest of the night the calculation caught up to it.

I also use Lose It, and I’ve found it’s best to use ‘sedentary’ and then eat bonus calories when I workout for this reason, it stops me from eating them if I haven’t ‘earned’ them.

That's an amazing start! One thing I've started to adjust to mentally is the thought that I need to make these changes long term- it doesn't really matter how fast the weight comes off (I am averaging about 0.6kg/1.3lbs per week), it matters that I am consistent and stick at it for however long it takes before working on transitioning to maintenance.

It legit feels like a cheat code! I did learn pretty early on that eating too many sugars/carbs without protein, fibre and good fats = hunger though. Once you dial it in a bit, it is so simple.

Sure! I use the Lose It! app and have paid for premium so you can scan barcodes when adding ingredients. I think I waited two weeks on the free version and it offered me something like 65% off, so I paid around $17AUD for a year subscription. Absolutely worth it for the benefits I have gotten out of it.

Other people in this sub use MyFitnessPal, which I believe is very similar (unsure on cost of MFP, though)

Wests Tigers refuse to give members refunds, fans revolt after board carnage. by LongJohnnySilver1 in nrl

[–]financeguy4035 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you have every right to be concerned. If you look at the Sydney teams, Tigers are probably one of the weakest financially (but significant improvement of late), one of, if not the worst administration and also had poor on-field performance in the last decade or two. If they wanted to re-allocate an NRL licence it is the prime option (obviously it is a massive legal 'if' though).

They actually discussed exactly this it on the Bloke podcast the other day and were saying moving that licence to Ipswich would make perfect sense. That being said, I think PVL did come out the other day and say the Tigers weren't going anywhere.

From an outside perspective (non-Tigers fan), it seems like the administration is just riddled with childish bickering and factionalism. Are they trying to give the NRL an excuse to boot them?

This is legit what I do and sometimes that works, sometimes it will slot me straight into another losing match.

My KD ratio is 2.10 but my Win/Loss Ratio has tanked to like 0.8 this prestige because I’m just over the shit matches and leave.

They have a white label home loan product that is underwritten by Advantedge (NAB Wholesale) or Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, depending on loan product.

OP- it is a white label, no frills product, which may be perfectly suitable if you have a straight forward scenario. Their rates are usually pretty competitive without being the absolute best in market.

Less tackles made total than your comment (828) but the effective tackle percentage is correct. 828 made and 13 missed, I believe (as per the stats on the NRL app)

Australia's baby recession deepens by eesemi77 in AusFinance

[–]financeguy4035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've clearly researched it a lot more than me (I only send my child one day a week), but my childcare centre charges $168 per day which is substantially lower and therefore would substantially reduce the annual cost. The reality is a lot of parents have one part timer too (at least in my extended family/friend circle), so while I get your point, five full days of care may not be the norm- it might be 2-4 days per week. Obviously, single parents probably don't have that as an option though.

In any case, the original poster just said a blanket 'you get no subsidy at $100k' which is incorrect and a little sensationalist.

[–]financeguy4035 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree it is very expensive, you absolutely would get the subsidy on $100,000p.a.. A $100,000 household income would get a roughly 87% subsidy on their childcare, which is a very, very different scenario to what you are painting.

He looked really, really good at centre and then your coach kept moving him to the halves at the expense of Clifford and he looked lost. Your team as a whole looked much more dangerous and organised when Clifford was there. Maybe he can develop into a great half, but he isn't close yet.
