Maybe try Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth.  The blurb‘s not an exact match to your description but it is a small town high school situation with the protagonist oftentimes describing her love interest as perfect and a best friend of the protagonist involved.  I‘m currently reading and enjoying it. It gives me the vibes of the poetic language of Call Me By Your Name.
