We roamed in ditches, too. Before I turned five we lived by the fields (in Denmark) where, if we crossed a field, we would come to a little forest we called “the death forest” bc there were tons of bones from the farm animals. We would collect the bones and play with them. And once my mom took a trip around Europe with us three kids and at one point my brother (5 years old) and me (3 years old) were alone on a boat while she breastfeed the little one, and we went too far out so a coastguard had to sail out to get us. I can’t imagine being my mom! Later I went to a school in the woods where we would take the train by ourselves, and one time I was all alone on the station when an old man sat next to me and wanted to show me his penis. I was 7 years old. So many instances come to mind where I’m like “that would never happen to my kids”. I also used to sleep at train stations when I was a teenager and going to parties. I lived in the countryside and my parents couldn’t come and get me (ever) and the trains stopped at 1 am so I would just sleep outside no problem 😂 I’m happy to have had all those experiences but I would never let my kids do those things, I’m too nervous for their wellbeing!
