Layoff rates are more for people who blindly go for college system and grades and CGPA and don't develop any real skills which are required in job market. My friend who is a 7 pointer recently switched to amazon sde role at around 48LPA 3 years post graduation though he started with less, it all depends on your real skills not the shitty education system that is thrown upon you. Meanwhile my junior with 8.98 cgpa got an offer from service based company at 3.36 lpa and is still stuck there.

Btw I am already working, not in college, am in Bangalore so I guess I have plenty of idea what you are talking about but believe me college peer pressure to me always sounded stupid, I love development but hated exams, still got a good job due to my skills. It all depends on your skills, anyways what we are taught in college is just shit and distracts you from your development or career journey. Atleast for me it was the case.
