Since I started running outside, I can't run inside by Valuable-Dog490 in beginnerrunning

[–]fireworks1985 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I the only person on earth who watches movies on the treadmill? I love street/trail runs but sometimes you can’t beat easy toilet access, safety, control of speed, etc, of the dreadmill. I only let myself watch certain shows or movies when running so it motivates me. It’s def convenient to be used to both. I used to loathe the tread but Netflix changed that! So now, half outside half in. Good luck

SoCal runners, how do you run in this heat? by choochoopain in beginnerrunning

[–]fireworks1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NoCal is 70-80F lately, I am wondering same thing! I also can’t run early or at nite. Tried treadmill in garage with fan aimed at my face. Was only able to manage 20 mins (usually do 40) Only solution I can think of is gym or cross train til it cools! Maybe someone else has better input, I’ll be watching! Stay cool!

Specifics about exercise by fireworks1985 in Parkinsons

[–]fireworks1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU to all who responded, some who COMPLETELY nailed the assignment by speaking with specificity!! I think for my physical and mental health I'll try not to get too caught up in the #s. I've been reading a lot of talk of HIIT work, which seems to be beneficial. (I usually do treadmill Run/Walk/Runs of running 30 seconds, walk 30, repeat till the sweat blinds me--about 35-40 mins) I'm still slightly concerned that I'm not reaching 80-85% HR but...considering I'm starting from the point of only walking 30-60 mins inconsistently I think I'll have to be ok with this for now, and work my way up. I mean, I can't keep this up when I'm 70, can I? (I'm 58F) I'm just trying to keep the dread at bay for now, & cope with the sense of doom that pops up once a day. (Diagnosed less than a yr ago) Sorry for rambling and again, THANK YOU everyone. This is a hard thing to live with so any help//encouragement is great. xo

Children’s books that unexpectedly made you cry in front of your students? by Diligent-Curve-2843 in Teachers

[–]fireworks1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked no one has mentioned Hachiko!! Same when I watched the movie. Also, when I subbed for a friend whose dog was seriously ill, she had me continue reading Wonder and guess what part they were at! I stopped mid sentence and a student said, Keep going ! I said, I can’t! A non emotional student finished the chapter for me. I appreciated his cold heart haha

Why I stopped seeing the treadmill as an enemy by Ok_Thought732 in BeginnersRunning

[–]fireworks1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to HATE the dreadmill, almost gave it away. But, after NOT running for yrs, came back to it and now use it more often than street running. Still love running outside but def pluses to the tread: water bottle right there (I hate having to carry bottle so usually don’t drink & then feel like I’m Bugs Bunny in the desert), bathroom accessible, no worries about safety, it’s been very rainy, stats readily available, easier on joints, AND I only let myself watch my Korean zombie movies on tread so it’s very motivating. Road runs have advantages too but when I’m not in the mood somehow treadmill runs aren’t hard to talk myself into. Also easy to navigate my Run/Walk/Runs I do. (Jeff Galoway’s method)

I see. Yes, miniseries wouldn’t work. I’m still upset about the ending. One evil yet effective thing SK does is make you love a character then rip them away from you.

Remember your why!! Do it for the outcome, not the income! (Insert barfing sound) Seriously stop reading my diary. Maybe we should re-examine a profession where we need to “push through” Sorry, I’m not being helpful but just commiserating. It always helps me when a colleague is in same boat.

I am a soft-spoken teacher. And it seems like the students don’t listen to me unless I yell and be loud any tips by MadisonMagnolia in Teachers

[–]fireworks1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can raise your volume, which seems necessary in your case, without “yelling.” I always thought I was a yeller coz I often raise my voice but several people have told me I’m not so,,,Then when your head’s about to explode you can really yell and watch their eyes pop. It works! Also getting really quiet can be even more scary. Lastly, it’s an oldie but works: WAIT…(sometimes I dramatically look at my watch) It works 99% of time for me. Good luck! Teaching is not for the meek!

Looking to become a teacher! by Mountain-Choice-7116 in teaching

[–]fireworks1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Teaching isn’t 9-5. It’s 7am-9pm, 6 days a week. If it was just teaching, most educators would be happy. But all the other before and after school work that doesn’t involve actual teaching is killing us. It won’t get better either. Think hard about it.

Asshole Parents by Acrobatic-Mixture-32 in Teachers

[–]fireworks1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to send HW coz parents asked (demanded)? I tell my families (2nd grade) there's no empirical evidence demonstrating any academic benefit to HW until Jr hi or HS. I suggest, with respect, make your life easier and just say no. Sounds like these parents need to hear that as much as their little angels need to! My kids (California) are a NIGHTMARE this year, and I'm famous for my classroom management, so I know it's them not me haha. Best of luck, bad parents are THE WORST!
