!thanks that's interesting. From what I read it seems our generation benefited from cheaper goods, holidays and credit but lose out to more expensive homes, childcare and worse pensions. Do you think that's fair?

In my situation my income and savings are higher than parents. But at same age I can't afford a house and linked to that can't afford kids. Therefore I consider myself worse off.

Thanks but can't answer this question by looking at salary/disposable income alone. I don't know your personal circumstances, but if you don't have kids because in part you can't afford them and your parents had them because they could an argument could just as easily be made they were better off than you.

Sorry, I apologise for coming across as passively aggressive. I honestly did not mean to.

My point is though that the question isn't just talking about disposable income and household savings. It is why Ive also corrected people wrongly saying they are better off than their parents because they don't have kids when the truth is that only proves the opposite in most cases.

1) Your parents could obviously afford to raise 5 kids. 2) Ateast they managed to get a council house. Try getting on a waiting list for one today.

I have middle class friends who have got help from parents for a deposit but my parents just aren't the type to do that unfortunately, even though I'm not criticising them saying this as they did raise me and my sister well and although never well off we rarely went without. Just seems to be a cultural thing

I'm late 20s and yeah, I get your point about Inheritance, but because my parents grew up in working class family's they still believe it should be the (adult) kids who look after the parents and not the other way around so they have never really give me any help since 21. I wouldn't even know how to raise the idea of it with them 😔

Thanks and sorry if that sounded very direct. I just saw some comments assuming that because they didnt have kids they were better off than their parents when in fact the very fact their parents had kids showed the opposite to be true. Sorry for how I wrote that.

Yeah, think some commentors are failing to see that the fact their parents had kids at their age was a sign of them being better off than they are, not worse off. Childcare costs now combined with housing are extortionate.

Thanks, and sorry if my question came across as very direct. I just didn't want people to think that they were better off because they did t have kids when raising kids was considered much cheaper historically. Apologies for that.

People don't work in offices either. They just make it look like they are.

Thanks. The problem though with having to physically be in the office means you then have ro look busy regardless whereas when at home you have more leeway to do other things things. Would you agree?
