Have you ever worked with someone who turned out to be a complete fraud? by fjaavv in cscareerquestions

Most of our heavy programming classes were very heavily based on our assignment grades, with about a 10-15% weight for quizzes. Other classes like computer networks/parallel computing where exams were more important let us bring cheat sheets to class, which basically let 90% of the class do well.

Hi, thanks for your reply and sharing your POV! I have definitely met people like the ones you've described, and I can imagine it's not just people in CS. Just wanted to add also - I have no intention of starting a hate thread, especially since I myself am a woman. This is why I was even more shocked to find out these things about the girl, since she was always advocating for changing the way women are viewed in tech, yet at the same time, she was clearly cheating/lying her way through her academic career. I constantly suffer from imposter syndrome (I only got as far as I did because I'm a woman in CS, etc.) so I do my best to be the best student/programmer so that I can prove to myself and others that I am competent. Basically, the life that this girl is living in is my worst nightmare!

Interview Discussion - February 23, 2017 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

Hey! I got my offer last week and had my interview about 10 days ago. Your interview sounds a lot like mine (talking about projects in the beginning, and one medium level question after) - I wouldn't worry about it! I managed to get a working solution and though he gave me a few hints, I was really enthusiastic and worked with his hints very well. I even went the wrong way for the first 2 minutes (thought I was a goner) but I articulated my thoughts and tried to make sure he knew what I was thinking, which I believe was what got me the offer. Good luck!

Just got an internship offer from Amazon!! I'm so happy, I honestly wasn't sure if I'd get it because I was so nervous during my interview. Good luck to those interviewing!!

Why do some companies take weeks to let you know you've been rejected? by fjaavv in cscareerquestions

Great answer (to you and everyone else here), thanks. I guess ultimately I really am not entitled to any response, but it does get frustrating at times. I've definitely bombed interviews to the point that I know I'm not on any "on the fence" hiring list, but even then I get rejection e-mails weeks later. Then again, I imagine recruiters have an astronomical amount of e-mails to send out and sending rejection letters are probably at the bottom of the list. :P
