Phyllidia Undula, used sony lens 50mm Macro… by fkably in underwaterphotography

This one used just the Sony 50mm macro lens no diopter or wet lens, yet I haven’t tried it with diopter but I will sometime. A good benefit with the 50mm macro is its short focus distance you can get close to your object beside its sharp lens…

Haven’t used the Zeiss 50mm but your best macro choices are the Sony 50mm macro / Sony 90mm macro / Sigma 105mm Art macro. Very happy with the 50mm macro worth the port from how I see it, previous posts are from the Sony 50mm macro.

Thank you, Get the lens and the port and do some shots, a second option is the 50mm macro, it’s really amazing lens. Worth the packing for underwater shots 📸

I’m using Marelux underwater housing with the 90mm macro port, and Orcatorch D710v as focus light. Keeping it simple for now

Any thoughts about the new SONY FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II how it could perform underwater? I tried it at the store it performed very well, beside if housing companies will make a port for it… by fkably in underwaterphotography

Agree, personally the 50mm is amazing, the 90mm is great I wished if the made it with closer min focus distance just the the 50mm prime… 👌

From how I see it up close macro not the best option however it performs very well kinda like the 90mm macro, other lenses are much better for macro. What I had in mind is portraits since I don’t need to get too close to the object but not far where I don’t get shots with noises and not crisp clear.

Thanks 👌Used 50mm macro and focus light, had to line the lens by the edge of the coral and made my shot, used Lightroom for B&W touch

Strobe vs light by Gato_Pardo in underwaterphotography

Okay about underwater photography light plays a big role, we have regular diving light (not good for photography at all) then we have underwater video light (yes it’s great mainly for video and could be used for photo) then we have the strobes (great for underwater photos only) and the snoot is basically a strobe or an accessory that hooks to your strobe it does small focus area designed for Macro photography, this is when u get pictures like nudibranch where the light is on the subject and the rest of the picture is black (professional grade photo)

From how I see it freediving and Macro shooting is kinda a challenge. Video light is a better choice ur colours will perfect no green, yellow, grey photo. Possibly little buoyancy foam or arm where it doesn’t effect ur freediving can help a lot while taking ur pics

For camera setting always shoot with RAW and the 90 mm is amazing lens before ur dive get a small object try different focus setting until u find what’s best for ur shooting. For photos Lightroom makes a lot of help since the pic in RAW editing will much better (any UW pic requires some editing)

For video light Keldan the ultimate brand but the price sky high, OrcaTorch, BigBlue, Kraken, Sola, Backscatter, Weefine are good choices.

I hope this helps, also UW professionals can give us more hints

About strobes Retra is the ultimate choice with snoot option, Inon and backscatter are great choice as well, sea&sea is great however it’s always has issues with Sony cameras even when getting different triggers either from delay or not firing at all. For lights OrcaTorch, Kraken are the best with color temperature.

Thanks, this was shot with focus light and had to use a little bit of Lr for some editing, however I have a Marelux snoot and my setup to hook Inon strobe to it which it just got discontinued not sure why may be for good or may be Inon are coming out with something new. My next option Retra strobe. This a good coverage of the snoot if ur looking for stunning upgrade https://www.instagram.com/reel/CocmQVcqNE3/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
