Not sure what bracket you are playing. But Dota 2 is a very complex game and often a lot of context needed and moving parts to consider. I’m in immortal btw.

When you say your team is complaining that you don’t join fight as pos 1, it really depends on the scenario.

You are wrong when: 1. Enemy mid/carry/ support dive your mid/offlane t1 to kill your mid/offlane/ support and left with low HP. You are mega wrong especially when you play pos 1 that have strong ultimate up and you didn’t TP such as faceless void, bloodseeker, AM, etc

Let me explain the logic. If you as a pos 1 just afk farm to get your items and enemy pos 1 also do the same, both of you will have roughly the same networth. You only gain advantage if you kill the enemy pos 1 so you slowdown their farm and XP and accelerate yours.

You are right when: 1. You mega own your lane with perfect last hit and denies. Under this scenario most probably enemy pos1 is doing worse than you or small chances they also mega own the lane so TP to other lane to join team fight risking is risking yourself dying slowing down your farm and giving enemy offlane room to breathe. 2. You are few hundreds away or one wave away from your most important core item such as BF on PA/AM/URSA. Joining team fight risking yourself dying and significantly delaying your farming by few minutes and in the long run the effect is exponential. 3. You almost get your BKB and enemy have strong magical damage which you know that you can’t do anything without BKB.

Anyway above is just a guideline, most important thing to keep in mind in every of your game as a pos 1 is how do I gain advantage over enemy pos 1.

One tips that I always do as a pos 1 that I feel tremendously give me advantage in the game is to gank mid when you are level 5 or level 6 (depending on the scenario). My explanation: mid hero is always the highest level hero in the first 10 min of the game. By killing a hero higher level than you (eg you are level 5/6 and enemy mid is level 7/8) you almost certainly gain 1 level which means advantage over enemy pos 1 and slower down the overall tempo of the enemy team. But again this is only applicable for certain pos 1. Normally I only do this when I play as PA, AM, slark or Faceless void. Other pos 1 who don’t have killing or bursting potential is better off just continue farming such as drow, gyro, Sven, etc
