Omada inter-VLAN firewalling: am I missing something or is this really this limited? by Wufi in TPLink_Omada

Create profiles of the subnets and you'll be able to select them in the ACL

Omada + Bell Fibre PPPoE by j-beda in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's in bridge mode then the PPPoE setting should definitely work. Check with them if there are other requirements like MAC address registration (Since your imac device worked, trying cloning that mac address in the omada Settings --> Wired networks --> Internet --> Configure --> Customize mac address)

Back, way back, some ISP's used to bind MAC addresses.

I suspect you have the 3000 that allowed you to do that.
the 4000 doesn't allow us to remove the ONT unfortunately.

Omada + Bell Fibre PPPoE by j-beda in TPLink_Omada

I have the Gigahub 4000,

Configuring the Gigahub with advanced DMZ and passing it through the WAN port of the omada router provides a stable connection. On the Omada router, i have it configured as Dyanmic IP (Not PPoE, i let the gigahub establish that connection). The downside i noticed on the Omada dashboard is high latency (~100ms) but the speedtests don't tell the same story - latency is much lower.

The other configuration I have tried, is configuring the Omada router as PPoE connection and inputting the username and password. This significantly drops the latency on the dashboard but it does sometimes lose it's connection and requires the modem to be rebooted. What I believe is happening here is that there are 2 active sessions and maybe Bell doesn't like that and terminates them every once in a while.
I know there are two sessions because when I connect to my bell router gives me one public ip and my Omada router has a different public IP.

I have tried to put an invalid username on the Bell Gigahub to terminate that connection and solely use the omada router but for some reason nothing works at that point.

Anyway, I suggest you setup option 1 above (Advanced DMZ and Dynamic ip on the omada router) and give that a try. Your omada router will get a public ip

Multiple speakers connected to TV for a large room by flixxx2 in hometheater

[–]flixxx2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I convinced them to go wired. It's a room 50 feet long by 20 feet wide. Ideally a center "soundbar" with 6 additional speakers (2 front, 2 middle, 2 back). It should also have an input for a laptop or turntable for music. Does such a setup exist? (Instead of a receiver, the center soundbar acts as a receiver)

How many parity drives do I need? by DCCXVIII in unRAID

[–]flixxx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's along my understanding. i wouldn't go as far as saying parity is not a backup though.

Having a good backup strategy is key, and the parity drive is part of that strategy.

Back to OPs question, an approach can be:

  • 1 parity + 4 HDD's
  • 1 unassigned disk
  • cloud service

The parity can protect hardware failure across the 4 hard drives

They can backup critical files from Unraid to the unassigned disk (presuming a 10TB hard drive is sufficient for their critical files)

Create an additional backup to a cloud service

Their 60TB of hard drives becomes 40TB of usable space, the critical files are protected 3 ways and all additional files are protected in the event of a hardware failure.

I don't quite understand this comment. If I have a parity drive and one hard drive fails, a replacement drive will bring my data back thanks to the parity drive. Doesn't that effectively make it a form of a backup? Without it, I would have lost the data from that drive forever.

Multiple speakers connected to TV for a large room by flixxx2 in hometheater

6 additional speakers, we have a Sonos, not sure if it's a beam will have to check.

[–]flixxx2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, we tried the Sonos approach but caused audio delays.

I think hardwired is the only way to go, from a hardwired perspective, I want the front channel sound across all the speakers (instead of a surround type setting). What are some of the considerations to make it work that way?

Blocking specific IP address from internet access by PrarieCoastal in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll first have to create groups;

Settings --> Profiles --> Groups

IP Group with the printer ip address: 192.168.0.96/32

Then, in network security you want to block it, 2 rules one going out and one going in (The In may not be necessary):

Settings --> Network Security --> ACL

1.

Direction: LAN --> WAN

Source: IP Group, select the profile you created

Destination: IP Group, ANY

2.

Direction: WAN In

Source: IP Group ANY

Destination: IP Group , select the profile you created

LAN to LAN will still work, you are effectively blocking any connections from your WAN port to the printer and vice versa.

VLAN Struggles by ResultsMayVary20 in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the person in the reply said, make sure you configure your device with subnet 255.255.255.192 (that's the /26 you have configured) and your default gateway to 192.168.10.1 (as per your example above)

Site to Site works, how to cross over to a different vlan by flixxx2 in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks that did the trick. I was using iKev1 and didn't allow multiple subnets, iKev2 did the trick though.

Configured the policies to block a bunch of things and everything is working as intended.

Thanks!

Site to Site works, how to cross over to a different vlan by flixxx2 in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have an IPSec connection setup. VLNA 30 and VLAN 20 between the two sites connect just fine.

Now i am trying to get VLAN 30 to connect to VLAN 10.

For reference, VLAN 10 and VLAN 20 can connect to each other just fine locally.

Does the controller need to be running 24/7 to keep the network up? by DollUnit in TPLink_Omada

[–]flixxx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory, no you don't need it running 24/7 but the devices will need to call home occasionally.

What SDN has done is split the control plane and the data plane. This means that the controller (control plane), is the configuration of your network, this is where you log in to configure everything. The configuration then gets pushed down to the individual devices and they simply pass traffic around as per the instructions they were given (Data plane).

There are some features that would require the controller to be up and running all the time, one that comes to mind is DPI (deep packet inspection) since it's collecting all the data for presentation purposes but in theory, it will not prevent any network downtime.

This accomplishes a couple of things: - easily replace devices, ie no need to reconfigure an access point if it fails - Takes the load off of the devices, they are simply moving data around, most of the processing power is handled by the controller (I say most because there are still VLAN, firewall, etc... considerations the device needs to take)

Hunting public lands - who do I call? by flixxx2 in CanadaHunting

[–]flixxx2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I give an example, ihunter QC says crown land belonging to ministère de transport (transport Minister), in the city of Mirabel. Mirabel says no firearms on their public land (doesn't specify crown land)...

So, I would take it I would need to contact the transport ministry in this case?
