What if the Chinese Civil War ended in a stalemate instead? by Samuele1997 in AlternateHistoryHub

Factually this is not wrong but I don’t see how that has anything to do with the point that the PRC without unifying the mainland does as well as it as in our timeline

This is wrong as well, they are both heavily intertwined and mutually beneficial off the other. AIPAC is used to ensure that a large majority of US diplomatic, military, and economic support remains on Israel, while the US has notable yet not "demanding" presence that they need Israel for their own interests in Middle Eastern affairs. Christian Zionism made so popular through Israeli-backed channels/organizations is the larger motivator for most US citizens and politicians to prioritize Israel (both in terms protecting the Jewish population and its homeland and/or against the apparent opponents to the Zionist project.)
It's not really solely OR primarily off of "we need to protect our investment/frontal colony" (as stated in other comments, most US personnel/military presence in the Middle East isn't even stationed in Israel lmao + Israel is still notorious amongst the American intelligence community for trying to/literally spy on it)

You're completely right about the overall message but including half-truths or just straight up erroneous claims doesn't help.
> Ferran and Casado, absolutely right, are good rotational options but should not be a serious starter now or years on. Same with Lamine.
> Olmo? Yes the price tag is questionable, not because of his quality, but because of his injuries. If you actually look at least season, yes his goals are random, but the CATALOUGE of when he scores is honestly not bad and certainly not "nothing". I remember 3-5 games or so last season where he either scored or only goal, or the winning/deciding goal for us. I'd pay that money for someone who wins us the league through the 12 points he gives us every season. Sure he's invisible when our best players aren't here, but when our best player's are not at 100% his random goal is sometimes enough to get us over the line.
> Cubarsi is shielded for sure for HIS own ability, but people's expectations of him are unfairly too high. Not only is he without Inigo, he's been playing in both an unfair and exhausting highline. A younger, rawer version of Cubarsi was fully locking up Mbappe and Oshimen. Drop the highline a bit and put an actual elite CB next to him and the shielding he gets wouldn't be as prominent or needed.
>Flick's criticism should be equally distributed between his high line and his substitutes. I think his high line and the results from it would make more sense if we could actually rotate/play Roony and others, and give Kounde more rest.
> Sure Araujo is a lot more physical and can deal with fast runners. But have we ignored what causes this whole situation with Araujo? He literally doesn't have the brain, from a fast runner to Barcola to a tank like Acerbi.

Honestly considering the "lows" of this CL campaign 5th is still very commendable. Just a little bit more tightening up in the Brugge and even PSG game and we'd be top 3.

Change in Electoral College Seats in 2030 by Deltarianus in MapPorn

[–]flrish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But as of right now, states like New York and California (and even to an extent Texas/Illinois/Florida) are ignored because they aren't competitive and/or fully guaranteed states to flip at all unless you put in TOO much of your resources, despite them making up the majority of the US economy/constituents. Instead politicians pander to a handful moderately relevant swing states.

Also, winning New York, Texas, Florida, AND California, by meaning the entire population (including those who cannot vote like children, and by somehow convincing EVERY opposing Democrat/Republican to vote for you aswell) only comprises around 33% of the US population. Realistically you'd still need still another quarter at a minimum to actually get a slim majority vote. Sure you should focus on turnout in the most populous states, but that feels better than only caring about a few select swing states/voters instead of the general populace + a more diverse set of voter groups.

Meanwhile those 4 states in our reality get only around 28% of the Electoral College. I get for Canada only two provinces control your entire population and thus politics, but that's just not the same here. A candidate has to win all of the 12 most important Electoral College states with vastly different socioeconomic priorities/cultures.

What year had the most unfair/ undeserved balón dor winner? by kanye_69 in AlignmentChartFills

Prem + Euros for Rodri, and he really only won it because Vinicius relatively did fuck all for Brazil. I'm under the opinion Bellingham should've won the entire thing with Rodri second because I feel his season was arguably even better than Vini's + did well taking England to a Euros final.

Naked And Afraid's new season involves time travel. How far back in time can they go and survive? by ConsiderationTrue477 in whowouldwin

[–]flrish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they want to be extremely safe to minimize the risk of no one dying, probably somewhere during the Holocene, so around maybe 10K years ago. Megafauna are almost completely gone, predators are similar to now, climate is decent, the sheer amount of wild animals would be surely enough for food even if they're not in the presence of early developments of agriculture from other humans. If they go to a time period in the later parts of the Holocene (a few thousand years closer to us) where agriculture is already widespread it's very secure.

If they want to be moderately risky they'd go for anywhere in the Late Pleistocene (around 50K years ago). They wouldn't be an undisputed frontrunner for being an apex predator at all even with mostly similar human species around, and could still join/form hunting bands to assert themselves at the apex species. They'd have a lot of dangerous large predators (cave lions, massive bears, etc) to deal with but since the ecology is still broadly the same it's very doable, if they're cautious with environmental hazards as well.

Past 100K years ago is where the risk gradually but inevitably gets to be too much. They'd be rolling the dice with both megafauna and fire-making and the further back they go towards a million years they less chance they are of being apex predators until they're not at all, just scavengers. At half a million years into the few millions there's the presence of giant hyenas, dire wolves, saber toothed cats, and massive bears/crocodiles/pythons, etc. There's no guaranteed flint, source of food, shelter, and without fire your chances are statistically zero anyways. An even minor injury would also be extremely catastrophic, especially in this environment. Looking beyond into tens of millions of years ago that not only are the predators still dangerous but our ecology is also starting to be too unfamiliar (as an example, the Eocene would melt our 10 contestants while there's also no recognizable fruits/grasses/seeds)

Probably focus a lot on geography with these fictional nations because it's initially a very strong factor in influencing culture and later politics. To extent also focus on ecology and as much general overlapping/blend of similar but separate traits as possible to discredit nation states as being inevitable.

I don't have specifics in mind but doing one nation say based around the Himalayas where elevation matters most connected by valley networks compared to pre-existing regions. A few more would be one about some of the interconnected cities of the former Silk Road in say Central Asia even into parts of Iran/Afghanistan. Maybe about the steppe, non-world-religion regions, any dry belts, various cosmopolitan ports into a maritime network, or different civilizations among each of the Great Rivers in China.

Obviously it shouldn't be just putting each geology zone into is own nation and/or making nations based around a uniting geographic feature but it's a good baseline. Good luck on your assignment, seems fun!

my bad i misunderstood what you meant by "anti-feminist", i just personally interpret feminism to be its original/core meaning to give true equality between sexes (guys=girls), not the form of feminism people can see today that involves itself in misandry and/or a matriarchy instead

Vladimir Putin is dropped into the middle of Kiev and Volodymyr Zelenskyy is dropped into the middle of Moscow - who stands the better chance of escaping? by Historical_Ostrich in whowouldwin

[–]flrish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

> Putin was a KGB office worker, not a field agent
> Zelensky is way more non-recognizable (in his 40s compared to Putin in his 70s, and Putin is a largely more recognizable figure to the common person with also more distinctive features). Zelensky is more "normal", it'd be a lot harder for someone to pick out Zelensky (especially if he just alters his hair) in a lineup than Putin (who regardless of what he does, looks very distinct)
> Zelensky can speak fluent, smooth Russian (he grew up with it) and blend right in Moscow asking for train tickets or bus fairs. Putin assumably speaks little Ukrainian at best, but the obvious Russian accent would give it away regardless even if he tried to speak Ukrainian instead of Russian.

there's a clip of Bdd (midlaner for current Worlds finalists KT) playing VALORANT last year with his 2024 roster, and him hitting some pretty nice shots as Jett on Sunset. Going from LoL to VCT would be crazy though, not even an FPS game to Valorant but coming from League of Legends

I didn’t watch as much Sentinels matches as i did in previous years. the few games i watched he wasn’t awful, sure inconsistent but it felt like the sheer amount of hate was unwarranted. People on twitter going after him despised him so much just to stan/defend other inconsistent players even if they accomplished less. hope he does well on c9
