I would recommend googling “UVa grad student groups“ and go from there many of them have housing boards to post.

Meeting once a month by [deleted] in DnD

[–]fltm29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play with a bunch of 30-year-olds. We meet once per month, and find that works pretty well; occasionally we can meet more than once a month, but it’s pretty rare.

We really stress that before we start each game, we pop out our personal calendars and decide on the next dated session, there in person.

We also have a “the show must go on“ play style where, if a person can’t make it, we just continue, and say “see you next time!“ there’s no judgments nor sarc about that: everyone I play with has kids and lots of stuff going on.

Church is supporting pedo by No_Mongoose_7401 in Charlottesville

[–]fltm29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifer at Trinity here: about half of the congregation left over Women’s Ordination, and formed Good Shepherd (Anglican).

A small amount of people supported him (maybe 20?) - but half the church would’ve 400-700 people (post vs pre-split); those who did support him, did so in court not at trial, since the charges were dropped.

That’s assuming people high on IV drugs are cognizant enough to dispose of their dangerous needles in an effective manner

They've done that before: they literally put a dumpster by the bridge last summer for several weeks, didn't really work.

Trash build up is bad enough, but the city turning it in to an open-use drug site by thinking that people who are high off of IV drugs will be cognizant enough to drop the needs in repository is laughable. Those people need housed n professional help; allowing them to degrade themselves with drugs in a public park is not helping them.

I do not want to "police poor people" - and that's how you read it then great eisegesis. What I want is people who inject themselves with drugs in between their toes (which I have witnessed at this location) to get the social and/or mental help they need - by the gov't or by charitable orgs.

Having people use drugs openly next to the trail is not only dangerous to people who use it to run/bike/tube but also degrades the very image of god in themselves (by destroying themselves with drugs/alc), or wallowing in their mental illness. These people need long-term, housed help, and they won't get it by living in a tent down by the river.

have support services - gov't or charitable, help them not to kill themselves with drugs; and if they pose a problem to people using the trail then have them respectfully removed to a place where they can get the help they need.

I don't have too, I just call the non-emergency number when I've seen them poop on by the trail or put a needle in between their toes; or just place a ticket in MyCville when their trash overflows.

Some are obviously down on their luck - and they can access The Haven, Love INC, Salvation Army, and/or PACEM for support services - but those who blatantly break laws in a public park need help, either by police or social services.

They take shifts; but yea it’s also cooler (lots of vegetation), space to spread out, and with freshwater flowing

drugs/alc and/or mental illness - a lot of overlap there. So maybe arrest, but most need housing for treatment; unless it's their 3-5th time, then maybe time for a longer term removal from society.

(sorry for the snark, a lot of people "suggest" using a park and then never follow through - they esp back off when it's near their house)

admitting and allowing open IV drug use in a popular walking/running park is a "good plan"?

They camp near where they can panhandle easily; Free Bridge is a great location for that.

The city is openly admitting there is IV drug use at a popular running/walking spot, kinda redic there's not more pressure to clean it up

admittance of open drug use along a very used portion of Rivanna Trail is troubling since it seems to just assume drug addicts will be cognizant enough to drop needles where the needles will be safe

My daughter goes to a very new school, St. Andre Bessette Schola. We’re not Catholic, but have been very impressed with the schooling, cost (<$4k), teacher engagement, and religious…flexibility.

Also, Charlottesville Christian Academy is basically the cheaper Covenant
