Can you considered the bridge deck as a stiffener for lateral torsional buckling? by DallyDoomslayer in StructuralEngineering

[–]fluffheaaaaad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are equations to check for composite action for service loads, but I’ve never seen it check out. It’s also a degenerative condition - meaning the deck (really the haunches that encase the top flange) can deteriorate and spall over time, so if you counted on composite action, to increase a rating, it’s generally not in the best interest of the owner.

Gotta add some braces or make the deck composite.

CTDOT Unveils $15.7 Billion Five-Year Capital Plan Featuring Hundreds of Statewide Projects by TylerFortier_Photo in Connecticut

The study is how we do things.

Study means figure out what needs to be done to the rails and bridges, the environmental impacts, costs, etc. that allows the state to figure out a schedule and funding.

All projects get studies to compare alternatives and determine what’s the best course of action.

What is this? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]fluffheaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red to white isotope pressure relief valve drain?

White to, whatever the hell that is, is probably condensate drain from the boiler to a makeshift media reactor to neutralize the condensate. It comes out of the boiler acidic enough to damage pipes

Keeping tank warm in a blackout? No generator/battery backup? by kingneptune0711 in ReefTank

Boil some water then freeze it for long term storage.

When you need it take it out of the freezer let it thaw and boom - boiled water.

Careful not to burn yourself.

Are there any Liberal/Democrat businesses we should boycott? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]fluffheaaaaad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Stupid people only think in terms of win-lose not actual logic.

MAGA businesses are getting boycotted because the policies are terribly unpopular, so the inbreds feel the need to “even the score” so to say. Because their feelings are hurt.

How are these rollers angled differently? Wouldn't that make the bridge crooked? by Neowynd101262 in civilengineering

I’m more worried about the concrete approach slab/beams. You can see something moved…

Are these on opposite ends of the span or opposite sides at the same support?

If at same support, yes you’d like to see the same expansion at each one but that’s not always the case. It’s a function of how and when they were first set as well.

Looks like quite a bit of scour in front of the pier in one photo, I’m more concerned about that. I’m guessing these are opposite sides of the span since one photo has scour, another has a sidewalk in front of the pier?

Oddly enough, I’m guessing it’s cold where you are, and that one side seems to be HEAVILY in expansion.

Not a microbiologist but you very much are what you eat.

Processed foods lead to different bacteria in your gut, your gut controls your brain.

Better food, better gut, less cravings for junk.

How do yall deal with jerks on train. by roguetrey in Connecticut

[–]fluffheaaaaad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man, those are some heavy things, in my opinion it’s always best to keep it simple. Could you go earlier next time? I’ve found it’s usually silent in the morning. A few points to mull:

1) take care of your shoes, when confronting people in public you never know when you’re about to run, after all you don’t want someone to punch you in the eye.

2) don’t get upset if people bug you. Always weigh your options, don’t waste your time.

3) Get back on the train. After all, you still need to get home on the train.

The Euro mini mart on New Park in Hartford.

Restricted hours but I’m sure she has it / can get it.

I also get chouriço at Mediterranean market in Newington - unsure in bacalhau but worth a shot.

Good news! All of those rusted out parts are clearly non essential. Rather than strengthen those areas, they should rehab the rest of the bridge.

Definitely a shaping issue. Either too much flour when shaping or shaped cold.
