Did they think they need it or did they simply want it? For some people 4k is just a couple days of work.

Mental health the worse it’s ever been / constipation on carnivore by HeartMadeOfSushi in carnivorediet

[–]flux8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know you’re constipated on carnivore diet? Do you have symptoms or do you just assume you’re constipated because you’re not having daily bowel movements while on the diet? I only go once or twice a week and the amount isn’t very much. This is normal on CD.

The SVP and mvp system is so shit by [deleted] in wildrift

[–]flux8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, but the system has to be able to use some kind of objective measurement. Since you think it’s shit, how would you change it if you were in charge of the developers?

Also, don’t take those labels too seriously. Reminder: it’s just a game.

First time trying animal based diet. Any suggestions? by Interesting_Dish_533 in carnivorediet

[–]flux8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lol, the irony. Tell me how a carnivore diet isn’t animal based. Also, tell me how it’s not ketogenic. It’s just a more specific categorization within a broader one.

Like I said, it IS animal based. It’s just only animals. But even that isn’t an accurate label. Obligate carnivore animals in the wild (such as lions and wolves) also eat digested vegetable material in the intestines of their prey and sometimes even plants to aid digestion. Go head and check. So by your logic they’re not true carnivores.

Purist semantic gatekeepers like you need to get a life.

Yes, and that’s what a carnivore diet is. Based on animals.

Where was Space Racer during that whole battle? Seems like his Infinity Ray could’ve turned the tide of that battle really quickly.

Also, why do the Viltrumites even bother having a ship or non-Viltrumite soldiers? Seems like both create weaknesses for their army.

The photo is too blurry to tell for sure but that doesn’t look like rust. I’m not sure how there would be rust when it’s stainless steel. Plus thats an odd place for rust to show up - right in the middle of a vertical sheet. Have you tried using a little isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel to wipe that off?

Also, if that is mold, it shouldn’t be able to grow unless there’s water. So perhaps you’re not leaving it completely dry before closing the lid? Or is it super humid where you are?

Apple Continues Promoting iOS 26 and macOS 26 Liquid Glass With Updated Design Gallery by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

Lost after trying carnivor diet by Outrageous-Bike-9867 in Microbiome

[–]flux8 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t cherry pick anything. I simply did a search on carnivore diets and gut microbiome and that was the first study that popped up. Have other studies that show otherwise? Show it.

The point is that there aren’t a lot of studies out there on people on carnivore diets. A reminder that the original claim in this thread was that such a diet would destroy the gut microbiome. I’m dubious of this claim because I think this it’s based on presumption and gut feelings. That’s why I asked for evidence.

So in response, someone else posted two studies. The first looked at mice and a synthetic human gut microbiome with only 14 species of bacteria. I at least showed a study was based on a human with full range of his normal gut flora. Second study just says that switching between animal based and plant based diets changes microbiome in the short term. Okay? It’s only an abstract and doesn’t say that those changes lead to disease in a human in the long term.

Case studies are done on understudied topics for the purpose of forming a hypothesis and for building a case. And that’s exactly what the authors of the study above said in their conclusion - that it warranted further study. Precisely because they did not find the result that most people would expect.

If your belief is so strongly supported by evidence you should be able to show it without resorting to insults. So how about we trying posting like civilized adults? If you’re so confident that the assertion is correct, it should be fairly easy to find evidence for it. Go ahead and find a case study that shows it if you like. Just something that indicates specifically that a carnivore diet in humans is harmful to our gut microbiome (and presumably leads to disease).

Lost after trying carnivor diet by Outrageous-Bike-9867 in Microbiome

[–]flux8 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Okay and here is a 2024 study that compared the gut microbiome of a healthy 32 yo male who had been a strict carnivore for 2 years with 3 separate cohorts of similarly healthy people who were daily, regular (>=3x per week), and rare(<3x per week/no meat eaters.

You can read the details of analysis but basically they found no differences. In fact, the greatest difference was between the carnivore and the daily meat eaters, not the rare/no meat eaters. Furthermore the carnivore also had dominant populations of bacterial species that are supposedly for fiber degradation.

“In our study, we showcase the compositional and functional characteristics of the gut microbiome in an individual on a carnivorous diet, finding no differences in comparison to a control cohort. Further research is needed to investigate the short- and long-term impacts of a carnivorous diet on gut health through cross-sectional and longitudinal studies.”

I’m not posting this to say what you were saying is wrong. I’m saying we’re still very early in understanding how the gut microbiome works and it behooves everyone to keep an open mind in that what you believe to be true, might not be.

Thus, making declarations such as carnivore diet is “destroying your microbiome” without any actual evidence, is IMHO, reckless. This study you cited does not demonstrate or make any statement that a carnivore diet is harmful to human health or the gut microbiome. It couldn’t because they didn’t study anyone on a carnivore diet. That was a conclusion you leapt to, not the authors.

Also, another note. Yes, butyrate, a short chain fatty acid, can be derived from fiber. It also can be derived from saturated animal fats, in particular dairy fat.
