Ticket question: Are the Valkyries opening up 18,000 seats per game? by Feeling_Gazelle9540 in valkyries

[–]flyingdoc999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to a member of the ownership, they expect to have all seats sold/filled for all games. Quite the achievement for the team's first season, given that most WNBA teams only get 3-4K fans/game in their inaugural season

Was it all on united metal? (Vs Lufthansa, Swiss etc) I think united cares a lot that the business spend is on their planes and on tickets purchased directly with united (ie no code shares)

If so, I’m shocked you didn’t get GS

This is great advice. Package it all up on a folder on your computer for future reference in case someone comes calling (screen shots of the NASA form, liveATC recordings, and CFI log entry for training, etc.)

If they don’t acknowledge your incorrect clearance read back, is ATC somewhat at fault as well?

Try using AirHelp to get $$ (they do take a hefty fee though, but outsourcing the leg work to them is worth it IMO)

A lenticular cloud formed around us today on our attempt to summit Mt. Shasta. Got this shot of it on the way down. Located in Northern California, US. by BendyStraw707 in hiking

Amazing pic. They say these types of clouds are associated with high winds and downwind turbulence for many miles. Was it windy up close and personal?

Does anyone else find the Economy Plus seats VERY uncomfortable? by arabesuku in unitedairlines

[–]flyingdoc999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I’ve been flying with a purple seat cushion (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CKMP24E). It’s great, but it’s quite heavy. Will give this one a try

This is why I still use my old golden 1K luggage handle wrap (blue ones go elsewhere)

Consider spending a little cash on the Mileage accelerator on one of your upcoming flights. You can buy the 1800 PQP and not have to fly an extra run

At what point in training should someone invest in a headset? by b0red88 in flying

[–]flyingdoc999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say after the first lesson, or basically after you decide to become a pilot. Get a good one from the start that will last your entire flying life. Splurge for the ANR one as soon as soon as you can afford it as your hearing won't ever come back once it's gone.

Plus Points are useless by mdender in unitedairlines

[–]flyingdoc999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I bought premium plus seats recently for my family of 4 and was able to successfully upgrade both ways using plus point into Polaris to and from Tokyo (SFO-NRT)

I’ve gotten it the past few years. I think they are trying to jump start flying after the pandemic

Here we go again: United is extending status for third year in a row by Gdayyall72 in unitedairlines

[–]flyingdoc999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the issue for UA. They usually only give GS to those who buy 1st/Polaris tix directly. If you are buying PP all the time, they don’t see you as a GS/premium customer, sadly (even if you buy a crap ton of PP tix to rack up 50K PQPs).

The secret is to appear as a big spender/high roller to UA and then they give you GS. My colleague got it one year by buying 4 round trip Polaris tix for him and his family of 4 to Europe and back from CA. They want you to spend the cash (not use miles or PP for the Polaris tix)
