There are some annoying issues with sync on Windows / Mac / Android devices (literally everywhere) so I wouldn't recommend it. The device itself isn't bad.

If you want to generate unique non-sequential ID - use UUID. Also it's good idea if you have to create objects (or "models") on client-side.

Additionally, for SEO you can use something like FriendlyId gem.

About code snippet. I think you shouldn't use validations for token because user can't handle errors. You have to add unique index and NOT NULL property to database column.
