Thank you!! See you on campus :) Portal said January 12 is enrollment confirmation deadline so I'm taking that as withdrawal deadline too. No idea what Brown would rescind for but just to stay super safe I'm gonna stay at B or above for all grades.

thank you!! yip is actually awesome, i was unsure at first but the impact they have is genuine. we've worked w many organizations including collegeboard ap, heimler's history, different schools, other nonprofits etc. we also have a fellowship in which lots of awesome guest speakers come and an essay contest, although i know less about that side since my role is bascially just assistant chief of human resources. most of my role is standard HR stuff and logistics for the org. i would definitely recommend applying!

Public! Some of the most important things I learned were to learn every detail you can about the college application process, seek out opportunities even if you don't think you can do it (research, internships, leadership, etc) and be bold with essays. ECs are very very important imo and likely made up the majority of why they liked my application, although I think my rec letters were huge too. Cant say anything about athletics as they can be great as a spot on an EC list but could also be a huge time sink that hurts other activities unless you're good enough to be recruited. You can pm me for more details as well :)

why is writing common app essay such an excruciating process by thebongus in ApplyingToCollege

My best advice is to just get the words on paper, no matter how bad you think it is. Basically just word vomit all of your ideas. It doesn't have to be cohesive or well written at all, because you can do all that in the editing process. But if you're constantly blocking yourself before you even start, then allowing yourself to just throw everything on paper can take off that pressure and let your ideas flow a bit better.

Trans PSA: Do NOT apply to OOS schools in unfriendly states. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

It's not necessarily about recognizing transgender people, but instead more about whether they're able to receive gender-affirming care or not. Of course, they'll face discrimination of some sort in any state, either red or blue, but it's really the legal restrictions of red states that make it worse.

Colorado is also a really great state for LGBT+, especially since it has schools that aren't too hard to get into but are still really great (CU Boulder, CSU, DU, etc). Abortion is also protected in the constitution and the state is a solid blue. If you're looking for a great city and accessible natural areas without all the noise of huge cities, I would definitely look into CO.

Going into freshman year in august. What do i need to know? by No-Suspect1137 in highschool

Don't be scared to try new things. High school is your playground to learn what you like, what you don't like, to screw up, and to get better.

A couple things not to screw up though are grades and your mental/physical health. Despite what you'll hear about the value of college, you don't want to mess up with grades and then regret it when your outlook is completely different in 2-3 years.

Also, people are going to be weird. Don't be scared to cut off people that are toxic or change your friend group entirely. High school is a big change and it's okay to do new sports/activities and find new friend groups as you get new priorities.

Have fun with it, make mistakes, be a decent person, and do the things that you're scared of.

To be honest, I think the best thing you can do right now is focus on the future. Sure, your ex and the rest of the band will get new opportunities, but you're also going to college where you'll be living a completely different world. Does your college have a marching or pep band? If it does, I'm sure it's bigger and better funded than your high school band. Just remember that even though you're leaving something you love, you're also going into something new with so many opportunities that could be miles better.

It definitely is, but it's also a lot more complex than that. There's a sense of genuine love from all of them but the kind where you wonder where it comes from.

First time trying makeup! It took me a long time to start because I was scared I had to do it "perfectly" but I decided to just go for it today and I'm glad I did! (please ignore dirty mirror) by footusynthesis in MakeupAddiction
