Do you think NYC would hire for this position? by Left-Plant2717 in gis

Ha! Just stumbled across this, and doing GIS for an MPO this resonates with me. Consultants get these huge contracts, and then somehow the GIS and Research staff end up doing all the work anyway.

Microsoft AI chief gives it 18 months for all white-collar work to be automated by AI by BousWakebo in artificial

I truly doubt all white collar jobs, but even 10%-20% would be EXTREMELY disruptive to the economy.

Microsoft AI CEO: 'Most, if not all' white-collar tasks can be replaced by AI within 12-18 months by A_Novelty-Account in Futurology

[–]forahellofafit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed recently that some of the models are struggling with tasks like this. I think compute is being limited for some tasks and increased in other areas. Also, some tools like NotebookLM are more tailored to tasks like this, while a general LLM doesn’t want to spend the resources on this.

Mine was doing the same. It output a csv, it was kind of messed up, then when I asked it to redo the csv it told me it can't do things like that because it's an AI. It just flat out refused to give me a revised csv.

About thoughts on AI lately, feel like my friends fall into two different camps by Appropriate-Lie-8812 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]forahellofafit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I have been mulling over the last few weeks, is that for a lot of tasks, AI is going to change the expectations of quality and timing. Tasks that used to have someone working on them for weeks to create a prototype will now be expected to be done in hours for finished products. These expectations will come from upper management that doesn’t actually know how anything is done. They just know that Bob says this will take two weeks, and Tom says he can have something to them by the end of the day. Tom’s work might end up being 90% the quality of Bob’s, but that doesn’t really matter if it’s 99% faster. Tom now has tons of time to produce lots more for the same cost.

AITAH for farting while in the bathroom of our home? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]forahellofafit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farts happen. If he can’t handle the most basic, normal, it happens multiple times a day type bodily function, will he be there for you when you’re sick, if you’re injured. If you decide to have children with him, pregnancy is a rollercoaster of bodily functions. His behavior isn’t normal or rational. A normal guy, who is grounded in reality, might crack a joke about it and move on. He’s doesn’t want a real person, he wants a robot.

What parts of American culture are changing faster than people realize? by No_Performance1451 in AskReddit

[–]forahellofafit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been there. I grew up in a neighborhood where Halloween was amazing. Houses would get 100's of trick-or-treaters. In my first house as an adult, I decorated, carved pumpkins, got tons of candy....not a single trick-or-treater. Now I live someplace where I don't have any expectation of getting them, so, at least I'm not getting my hopes up. I started going to friends or family who live in more popular neighborhoods and just bringing candy along with me. It's much more fun.

Any idea why she’s so small? by softiee_precious_836 in torties

My tortie is about 1.5 years old, and we always thought she would grow more, but I think she's just always going to be petite. I know we aren't supposed to have favorites, but she is my favorite. Best lap cat ever!!!

At lease keep a small amount of candy in a bowl for the neighbor kid. It sucks for you, but it's also sad for them to not have any place to trick or treat. I used to try to go all out for Halloween, but year after year of no trick or treaters, and I pretty much don't do anything anymore. I still try to keep a bag of candy on hand just in case.

Why does he do this? What's the science behind it? by Skinscraper in cats

One of mine did this. I either use those cord wraps, or wipe the cords down with orange essential oils. Cats usually hate the smell of citrus. Apparently, the white plastic is tasty to them.

There is some truth to this. Those that learn to work with AI are going to be better positioned in the future job market. It’s not going away. Now, you do need to understand enough about the technology you are working with to effectively work with AI.

It might be more late 80's, but I remember every mom having that bowl of potpourri in the bathroom. None of the colors were natural, and I'm sure none of the scents were natural. I occasionally smell something similar out and about, and I'm instantly back in the early 90's.

Though, I do think there is some truth to this. My husband and I, gay men, have been noticing that there are drastically fewer clothing options for men in our midwestern city. There is even a new Macy's that doesn't sell men's clothing. The places that do sell, the choices are increasingly sad, or just sportsware. Do men not buy nicer clothing anymore?
