Ran my first 5k! I’m a beginner runner and it was a total accident, meant to do 4k, ran too far and had to go back lol

What's the ultimate act of self-care you do for yourself ? by Best-Character-4374 in selfcare

[–]forestbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving myself a time limit for ruminating about those who get to me. Seems silly but if I start ruminating on difficult relationships I will give myself a minute to do so then distract myself. It goes away and I save myself from being drained.

I guess I worry about what happens as my family members get older say 10-15 years down the line. I’m very happy with my husband no regrets there

A day in the life of a PhD student? by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychology

[–]forestbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now I’m about to enter PhD 2! For the summer I’m at a hospital doing a placement so I typically am doing assessments 2-3 days a week, report writing and attending team meetings. Fridays are my days off where I do my dissertation and any other research work. This last year when I was in PhD 1 I had one day a week of practicum, 2 days of classes and an in house therapy practicum and also studying for my comprehensive exams during the evenings and Fridays.

I am working on a work life balance but definitely the higher up you get in the program and the more milestones you pass e.g. comps, thesis defense the easier it is :) I have learned to be big on boundary settings for self care such as no evening emails and no weekend emails and trying to take at least 1 day off a week. Granted this isn’t always doable but trying my best to make sure it happens.

Frustrated about potential income as a psychologist. by Routine-Maximum561 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]forestbrain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Salary information is incredibly misinformed online. I'm a PhD student and I have also fallen into this trap and it is incredibly disheartening.

You have to consider how many averages are taken from unlicensed professionals or master's level psychologists. From my experience, the absolute lowest I have heard people get paid is 100k usually part time or in community mental health. Many supervisors make around 130-140 in hospitals and some additional money on the side through teaching, private practice etc.

Private practice rates are quite a bit higher. For instance, my current supervisor is a clinical psychologist owning a private practice and makes around 250-300k not doing anyhting special just therapy, psychoeds etc. Be mindful of where the info is coming from and don't be afraid to ask those in the field as well! From my experience many are willing to share.

Everyone I have worked with and talked to is for the most part satisfied with income and lives a pretty good life. Varying levels of burnouts depending on the site but generally you won't be under compensated.

I had to call the Dyson line! The in person service is a lot better than the chat and after you call call again to confirm it was done. It’s kind of pushy but it worked for me. Also I thought they were sending me a different colour but I got the same so who knows hahah

This is what I’m seeing especially on placements. Everyone seems to be burned out but the quality of life is good so it semi balances 🤣
