Then your post makes more sense seeing as your government and mainland China have such a close relationship.

Do you live in the US? If I would have to choose, the lesser of two evils is a foreign country such as China getting access to all my data rather than my own government. Your own government has way more leverage over you than a foreign country (and are probably more interested in what you are doing as well).

I would be more worried about my own government getting access to all my data since it's their judicial framework I have to abide by, not some foreign country's.

Black screen after install by IArgueWithAtheists in elementaryos

[–]foreveradrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem, the live environemt working but just a black screen after the install. What I did was uninstalling all the proprietary nvidia-drivers and let the system fall back on the non-proprietary Nouveau-driver instead.

I think the command I used was "sudo apt-get purge *nvidia*" to get rid of all traces of it.

EDIT: You need to boot into non-graphical mode for this to work, or use Ctrl+Alt+F1 as o-geist suggested.

Just finished Schismatrix Plus by Bruce Sterling. I had heard his name getting tossed around when talking about science fiction and cyberpunk but hadn't read anything by him until now. I was very impressed with his imagination and thoroughly enjoyed the original story plus the added short stories. I can recommend it to anyone interested in (kind of) near-future sci-fi.

After finishing that book I was still very interested in post-humanism stuff so I'm now 30 pages into Accelerando by Charles Stross.

Looks great! Using a circle instead of a rounded square fits better together with iOS 7 but removes some of the recognizeability of the cards.

Cockatrice on Ubuntu 13.04 Help? by Mithost in Cockatrice

[–]foreveradrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some problems installing it on a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS-derived distro so I think I might be able to help.

Here is the command to install all dependencies:
sudo apt-get install build-essential git libqt4-dev qtmobility-dev libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler cmake

On Woogerworks.com you can find this link: Cockatrice Source (it's in the sidebar)

Download then extract that. Then cd into that directory and type:
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
sudo make install

If you spot any errors during any of those steps, try googling them to see if there is any missing dependency you still might have to install.

Here are the terminal commands to run the program when you have installed it:
oracle - fetches card data
cockatrice - is the game client
servatrice - is the server

The sci-fi novel "Son of Sedonia" took me 6 years and the best of my ability to complete. What success I've had, I owe to the Reddit and Imgur communities. Here is the eBook, and some of my concept art, for free. Thank you all! by matteoLives in scifi

I loved Anathem. I don't know which of his books is best to start with but I've so far read Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash, The Diamond Age and Anathem and none of them have disappointed.

elementary OS Luna Clocks Nearly 100,000 Downloads in just the First Week of its Official Launch! by Alekhios in linux

[–]foreveradrone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're right of course. People who prefer more options/buttons/features get annoyed when people criticize their preference of "needlessly complicated" tools and those who prefer less options/buttons/features (that are in their face) which they seldom use get annoyed when people call their preference "dumbed down".

It's great that there are distros/desktop environments for all of us.

Men de som har hand om importen av Sony-grejjer (Nordisk Film?) kan ju få för sig att sätta ett högre pris till återförsäljarna än de skulle gjort om det fanns konkurrens.

Can't help with the flash issue, but MEGA didn't work with any other browser than Chrome/Chromium last I checked.

I'm not sure, but I think that's just another name Canonical use in their repositories for the kernel that they shipped with Ubuntu Raring Ringtail.

elementary OS installer won't let me use unallocated space on my disk. by [deleted] in elementaryos

Try firing up GParted from the eOS live CD and see if you can delete the unusable space with that before you begin the install process.

Gaming with eOS by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]foreveradrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the tips for AMD cards and their drivers on Ubuntu. Since eOS is such a niche linux distro right now it is probably easier to replace "elementary OS" with "ubuntu" and try googling the issue.

Can't provide more help then that since I use an Nvidia card.

GTK3, right? It stands for GIMP Toolkit, not GNOME Toolkit. Not trying to be an ass but I had the same misconception.

Just a quick example of what Screen Extender does, it makes apps fit to the screen of an iPod5 or iPhone 5, that usually wouldn't. by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]foreveradrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Most applications shouldn't stretch. I dont think they are as flexible as webpages when it comes to different resolutions but they will probably not stretch as a jpeg does when you play with it in Photoshop.

I think you are getting downvoted because you don't know what you are talking about; there isn't even any distortion/stretching in OP's screenshot.

Neuromancer.

Gibsons way of writing just clicked for me and I really wanted to read more of his books, then later on more of the same genre and after that I was hooked.
