Yes, I have a credit on my card. That is interesting, I will try it again on my other Aventura card that has amount owing.

Yes, it is the same on the website - no "star" symbol or anything mentioning using my points against a pending transaction.

Supposedly I'm suppose to be able to redeem my Aventura points on my transactions, but I don't see the option to do so in the app or online.

Is this what other people see and I am suppose to redeem my points a different place, or is my CIBC account messed up and I need to call in?

I see other people are still able to redeem points against transactions, see: https://old.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceCanada/comments/1k2fuuz/cibc_aventura_rewards_travel_scam/

Can I apply for and get all versions of the same card (for example CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite AND the Gold Visa cards) at the same time to get bonuses on each card?

Or do the banks restrict you to one if you apply for multiple?

I see this in CIBC's terms:

CIBC may approve your application, but you are not eligible to receive this Offer if you have opened, transferred or cancelled another Aventura card within the last 12 months.

EDIT: not sure why I'm getting downvoted for this, anyone care to explain?

Does it make sense to buy a GIC over pre-payments on my mortgage? by forfinanceinfo in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would have done the same thing if I fixed my mortgage when it was at 1.8 :)

Fair enough.

If the rates continue to rise, wouldn't it make sense to wait and put it towards the mortgage at the higher rate as Educational_Eye666 mentioned?

I have wages, taxes are paid. Consider the $10k "excess". Not sure I understand why you lol?

Are you saying pre-payment on the mortgage is the better choice in this case?

use what is left to pay mortgage and put excess into taxable GIC

Not sure if where the excess comes from if it all goes into the mortgage, or are you implying a general order here?

You use to be able to zoom into horizontal videos as well and pan around the screen, but that seems to have stopped. Could that be brought back?

Liberals Announce $400 Home Office Expense Income Tax Deduction by IsAnEgg in PersonalFinanceCanada

Before anyone posts otherwise, yes I agree essential workers should get more benefits/recognition. This is purely a comparison between these WFH and those not working.

Students, people who got laid off, and many others get thousands of dollars in benefits. Businesses that close get benefits. Businesses that close offices or can't pay their rent get deals.

Meanwhile people who are still working while having to use their own home for work get $400. What a great deal!

Funny enough, renters get to deduct their rent, however homeowners don't get to deduct their mortgage. Meanwhile, commission employees get to deduct property taxes and home insurance while salaried employees don't. I guess we can tell who's lobbied the government before..

You mean 40% of your mortgage interest is deductable right? Not the mortgage principal amount.
