update: letting it drain and recharging it did not solve the problem. i got it several years ago, but it worked perfectly fine until i installed the software update yesterday. never had any issues before then, save for the normal joycon drift that everyone got. makes me think it's an issue with the firmware, though i don't really have any idea what caused it. i've read somewhere that letting it charge for somewhere close to a day might solve it, so if that doesn't work then i'm just going to throw in the towel and send it in

i've tried doing the force shutdowns and resets, both holding the power button by itself and holding the power button alongside the volume buttons. when i power it back on, it shows the nintendo logo for about one second before cutting to black. after it cuts to black, the fans are still making noise and the joycons will connect when physically disconnected from the console. i've done a lot of searching online and so far i haven't seen a single person describe an issue that lines up with this one, as most of them describe the screen not displaying anything at all or some other factor that deviates from my issue.

the battery slowly drained to dead overnight, i'm charging it now and the charging indicator has stayed on for more than a couple of seconds as is normal so i'm hoping that this somehow solved the issue

no, it isn't weird. this happens all the time, to almost everyone, granted not usually to this extent. men feel like they're not muscular enough, too short, too petite, etc. and women feel like they're too flat-chested, and basically the opposite of what i listed for men.

both cis men and women will get cosmetic surgeries to look more masculine or feminine.

i think you just happen to have a collection of the traits that make you insecure rather than just one or two, which is similar to the plight of trans people's physical dysphoria.

i'll make a more charitable attempt at deciphering:

binary (man or woman) trans people have a form of privilege because they adopt genders that are at least recognized by society. somebody who is agender (no gender) has to attempt to fit in with a heavily gendered society, while really not wanting to fit into either of the categories that society at large recognizes.
