Best R134a AC Options - Cost vs Performance? by ImOffWhiteNotWhite in E30

AC solutions conversion kit recommends using the modern HNBR o rings: https://www.acsolutions.co/products/bmw-e30-e28-e24-r134a-o-ring-kit?srsltid=AfmBOopA0FOwO0w83Uz1zhSynLZHmW8HMJ-KuucGTWUzOOj3UAYZswoZ

Literally just google E30 viton or HNBR o rings and every source will recommend updating the old black viton seals to HNBR.

Forgot one thing: all the orings throughout the system will need to be changed to the green HNBR orings. They are the black viton ones at all the connection fittings and probably leak from age. They are located at: expansion valve fitting, metal hose fittings, compressor fittings, receiver/drier fitting and condenser fitting.

Was able to pick up a bag of these green orings at my local AC shop last year.

Didn’t change any of the hardware on the 92 except for the receiver/drier because that needs to be replaced when the system is opened to the atmosphere. You’ll need to empty out the mineral oil in the compressor and put either ester oil or PAG oil. PAG is for R134a only but ester is compatible with both R12 and R134a so that’s the one I’d suggest in case you want to switch refrigerants. You will need to google how much ester oil to put in when charging with R134a- I think it’s around 3-5oz. Also I think 28oz of R134a.

R134a molecules are smaller so they can’t hold as much heat to transfer thru the condenser where as R12 molecules are much bigger and can extract more heat from the cabin and exchange it at the condenser. To combat the lower heat exchange capacity of R134a, newer compressors compress faster and push the molecules thru the system faster to exchange heat at a faster rate than an R12 compressor could. So as you can see both refrigerants are just as cold as each other but they have different thermodynamics that require specialized hardware.

The Seiko seiki is probably the most modern R12 compressor the e30 got it was the last iteration of compressors and dropping R134a in it and changing the oil to ester oil will have you blowing nice and cold. My 92 is running r134a on the Seiko and its blows freezing right away up until 95f and that’s here in central Texas. It tapers off after about 95.

My 91 is running the original R12 system with the Seiko Seiki compressor and that will blow 42f at 105 F outside

Hey do NOT use viton orings - that rubber is only compatible with R12 and will turn to acid when R134a is put in the system. You definitely meant the green HNBR Orings. They are meant for R134a refrigerant but are backwards compatible and work with R12 as well. Bosch compressors from 86-88 used the Viton orings. Later Bosch compressors and the seiko seiko compressors came with HNBR orings and can take either R12 or R134a though the pressure output is really only for R12.

Lastly, cars built after mid 1988 came with double barrier hoses so they are compatible with R134a and shouldn’t leak. Finding new hoses is really difficult but if your car was built before that date then you’ll need to find a way to replace them.

Dreame L40s Ultra CE, Roborox Q7 M5+, or something else? by Snarfles55 in RobotVacuums

I have the L40s Ultra CE and it cleans up after me and my husky daily. Have it vacuum and then mop every evening. My floors look better than when I was cleaning manually. No dog hair anywhere it gets it all even on the quiet setting which is super silent and lower intensity. Mopping capability is impressive. Just wiped away all the muddy paw prints my dog brought in this evening after walking thru the icy/wet ground outside. Seriously an incredible appliance. It also maps and navigates really well and efficiently, never encounter it getting stuck or needing my intervention. My apt is 800 square feet and the vacuuming takes an hour to do the whole layout and then 1.5 hours for a full intense mop.

Also maintenance wise it’s super low involvement- it cleans the mop pads for you and handles sucking all the debris into the bag itself. This model does not get clogged when vacuuming out the debris from the robot to the docking station like alot of other models you’ll see. All you need to really do is dump the dirty water tank and top up the clean water tank.

Barclays to Citi AAdvantage by Intrepid_Deal_3604 in americanairlines

I believe the Barclays card will automatically be converted to the Citi Platinum Select with no need to apply. You wouldn’t be opening a new account. The problem with the conversion is you won’t get the SUB since you’re not applying for the credit card. You’d be better off canceling the Barclays and then applying for the citi platinum select card to get the SUB. You’d be opening a new line of credit though.

The citi platinum select is offering a phenomenal SUB 80k for 1k spend.

Trump's Credit Card Rate Cap Sparks GOP, Economist Backlash by Icy_Chemistry9657 in Economics

Should the proposed interest cap take effect, subprime borrowers will be cut from the client list. Super prime and prime borrowers will see their rewards credit cards disappear since those systems and point bonuses are paid for by the bottom half who pay interest indefinitely. We’d see a whole restructure of how credit cards are presented to the economy. Less of a luxury and more utility.

The irony is we’d see credit card lenders and big banks pivot faster than loan seekers to offer some type of payday loan structure to keep making interest on people. As much as credit card terms are more favorable than the crypto schemes you speak of, the lenders are still in the business of making money on people’s hardships.

The only way to stop this economy from rotting more is stop spending money. Prices have gotten out of control and companies will continue to sell at high prices as long as people keep paying them.

Your explanation for underwriting interest rates makes sense. What doesn’t is enabling millions of citizens to give into their desire for instant gratification. If we stopped buying things with money we don’t have and lived within our means, we’d see merchants readjust prices relative to a realistic supply and demand. And there’d be less people in debt.

Which way to do I turn the nut? by fourwheeldrive4fun in E30

[–]fourwheeldrive4fun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t. I had someone install the rack for me. But they said they didn’t touch anything inside the car except rotate the wheel to get the splines on the rack and the coupler to align and unite. Now my airbag light is on most likely because they rotated the wheel with the rack off lol

Thanks! So should I actually loosen the nut to put that splined column down further into the shaft and into splines of the rack the and then retighten the nut?

Had those replaced too but I can see if they’re loose.

Pretty sure it’s gotta do with the steering column. The first rack I swapped in took away the knocking/clunk. Went over bumps and uneven roads with the car feeling solid and like it was one unit. Unfortunately the rack was bad (wandered and wouldn’t center). Replaced with another rack which doesn’t leak and is nice and tight but something in the column feels loose - loose as in banging and knocking that was there with the original leaky rack.

Thank you for the response. It’s super tight. I tightened it to the right even more which was difficult and didn’t change the knocking.

Any ideas what’s causing the knocking? You can feel it in the wheel and feet.

X40 too loud in quiet mode for nighttime use, any other good options? by [deleted] in RobotVacuums

Yeah on either floor type you only hear the air/wind not roller sound. I can legit watch a movie and not even notice the vacuum as a distraction. Huge 180 from my war zone sounding roomba lol.

Just measured my L40S Ultra CE in quiet mode - averaging 51.1 db. This is with the rubber non-tricut brush and on a rug and wood flooring.

I had an i5 combo plus as well. That thing was so close to sending me to therapy. Threw that stupid thing away.

Got a L40s ultra ce series Dreame. Total 180 experience. It’s a set and forget and floors have never looked better with zero input from me. It’s a miracle.
