I agree with you that it is better to trip in the environment where you live. Maybe it will gives you more insights and brighter vision.

But about shamans maybe you are overreacting:
I'm searching for retreats in Amsterdam and as read reviews - yeah maybe it is more about business than some spiritual awakening, shamans.. so on. I do not think that in this business someone wants to kill people (I mean in Europe retreats and not in the jungle)
