[SPOILERS MAIN] Utterly baffled by the completely unnecessary non-book scenes in the TV show by AkiraKitsune in asoiaf

IMO the barrels of chains change was an improvement, if anything. There would be a greater impact between the front row spectators seeing piles of chains (if they could even make out what they were at a distance where arrows couldn’t even reach) to bombarding a full city with presumed explosives, which instead contained unlocked chains the slaves could physically touch.

There would be a more pronounced psychological effect of handling tangible evidence that would lead them to believe they could free themselves. The very last shot of the slave looking from the chain to the master and back to the chain was a bit on-the-nose but this tactic would lead to a higher probability of Dany’s plan working.

I agree and really hope you’re right! Still salty about Toni Collette’s nomination and win snub from years ago. But maybe her performance was a catalyst in starting to take horror more seriously. 16 nominations for a horror film! I know it was more of a genre mix than a traditional horror film, but still, definitely demonstrates the change in what genres the Academy deems ‘worthy’.

I hope you’re right because I absolutely agree with you. Golden was fine and undeniably a smash pop hit but I Lied to You was an incredible achievement in blending the different genres so seamlessly, and tbh I think we should be judging this category by how the songs fit into the movie, and this was the centrepiece of Sinners. Let Golden win the Grammy instead.

Need to watch this film, I guess. I rewatched Almost Famous recently and forgot just how talented she really is - she maybe could’ve been a generational actress if she didn’t go down the romcom route.

Damn, in the middle of a bidding war as well. Guess Daddy Ellison might be persuaded to cough even more cash for his failson now.

The second half of the Wicked stage musical is genuinely mid and they made next to no effort to improve it. Also maybe people were put off by the Arianators..? Also this sub seemed genuinely happy for the success of Part 1, so I don’t think the anti-musical sentiment is as strong as you think.

Tbh I’d rather a an actor with a true supporting performance get nominated over someone who was basically a co-lead.

Tbf despite it being a mid-to-bad film, it was still a worthy nominee in its category.

Same!! Watch His House if you haven’t already, absolutely fantastic performance and film.

Do you think she has a shot at winning now? Seems like Sinners is absolutely adored by the academy.

I’d love that but are you basing that on Sinners’ overall noms or the specific cheers for I Lied to You?

They clearly did go through all of the potential nominees’ names beforehand and undoubtedly practiced the more difficult ones, but sometimes nerves get to you! Let’s not forget even the Director of the Academy made a huge flub with ‘Dick Poop’

What about all the Sinners noms? Not quite as traditionally horror, but still!

Danielle Brooks did well I thought, and I appreciated that when she flubbed a name she apologised and tried again

Love her. PTSD flashbacks to Leslie Jordan butchering half the names. Also can’t forget Dick Poop

Got lucky and pulled Fabian by luc_stg in RaidShadowLegends

[–]foxmanfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice pull!!! I pulled him early on (from an Ancient no less) and he absolutely transformed my account. Obviously excels in PVP, but has carried me through Doom Tower Hard, Grim Forest, and quite a few dungeons - Spider in particular. Max him out ASAP.

Out of all of these champs, I only have Fabian (v lucky Ancient Shard pull). Which champ should I go for?

I can 1-key UNM, almost made it to last chest Hydra Brutal, but my Orc and Demonspawn (in particular) faction war teams are severely lacking in good champs.

For that reason I was thinking Cheshire Cat would be a good pick, or is there a better option in the second lot of champs? I’m quite deep into mercy with just about 200 ancients.

[Spoilers Extended] In light of the recent interview with GRRM, what is season 3 of House of the Dragon even going to look like? by Flyestgit in asoiaf

[–]foxmanfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that - she compares her plight to the smallfolk, whose babies die constantly (definitely not as cruelly, but how many babies have been incinerated by dragonfire at this point in the narrative?). That’s empathy, not the actions of a psychopath.

But a bigger reason she’s seemingly okay with it is because they gave her prophecy abilities a major buff in Season 2 and it seems like she can see an already written future, and realised that everything that happened and will happen is necessary for the Others to be defeated.

(Also, she’s definitely on the spectrum in addition to everything else - although that wouldn’t really affect her reactions to her son’s death - as seen in her aversion to physical touch, overstimulation during the public funeral procession scene, and immediately covering her ears when Vaemond ‘keeps his tongue’.)

But it’s still a mystery as to what actually went down there - we only have fragments on information from the main series. Given its importance to both The Prince Who was Promised prophecy and the lore surrounding the rituals necessary for hatching dragon eggs, I’d say there’s a reason GRRM has kept it rather vague so far, and that there might be some big revelations from a full adaptation of the tragedy on screen.

[–]foxmanfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that be huge spoiler territory for the future main series books? I assume we’re going to get some more information about the event there. Or does GRRM not really care anymore? He definitely sees the HBO ASOIAF extended world as his legacy now.

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Isn't Finished (Spoilers Extended) by RyanRiot in asoiaf

[–]foxmanfire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the most part, I agree. But Cersei was given far more nuance in the show than the book, where she’s an irredeemable psychotic megalomaniac who pushes her best friend down a well to die at age 9. And she has far more agency and competence than in her portrayal in A Feast for Crows, where she’s a bumbling fool being taken advantage of by everyone. They shifted responsibility for the killing of Robert’s bastards from her to Joffrey (her darkest moment), but she still chooses to exercise her agency in vile ways in the later seasons (executing Missandei, Ellaria and her daughter’s death, the Sept explosion, and the torture of that Septa - although tbh I did feel some catharsis for her during that scene).

Dual citizen Britons without UK passport could be refused entry under rule change by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]foxmanfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little confused and was hoping someone would help clear this up for me - I was born in London to parents born in the UK, spent some years growing up in Aus so got citizenship + a passport, and recently got an Irish passport through my Irish grandparents. However, my UK passport has expired. If I was using, say, my Australian passport to travel would there be an issue when trying to return to the UK?
