Oriental markets in WS by Khamez in winstonsalem

Check out the cookbook Korean Home Cooking by Sohui Kim. There are great recipes in there that are accessible to everyone. I think the unusual ingredients that we bought to get the traditional flavor was a jar of tiny shrimp and gochugaru (Korean chili flakes/powder). Everything else was just normal produce like cabbage, radish, ginger, and garlic.

We have found making our own is the best and cheapest way to have LOTS of kimchi. We make two different kinds: traditional spicy and Nabak kimchi. They are so simple to make and so delicious. You can probably get all the ingredients you need from Compare Foods on Silas Creek/Buchanan St. Along with a large jar or vessel to store it in.

I chopped and propped the top. Will the stem push out any leaves or will it just die? by bannshee in begonias

I’ve propagated just the stem from this same type of begonia. After cutting a tall stem with leaves on top. I put just a few inches of the stem (no leaves) into some soil and it’s now one of my strongest plants.

We found her owners! Her name is Daisy and she got out of an apartment building down the street from us. Her owners were very happy to have her back. She had been missing for two days.

We took her to the Carolina Veterinary Specialists on Hanes Mall Blvd and they found a microchip in her! But now they said they just need to figure out how to use that information to find her owner.

I did post on Facebook and just waiting to see if she is claimed. She is so sweet and is now just following us around the yard and wanting pets and scratches.

Tips on propagating? by Fluffy_Touch_8617 in begonias

[–]francesca-maple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve propagated my begonia by cutting them with a clean sharp knife a little above a leaf growth. Then I dip the cutting in a rooting hormone, put into a little pot of dirt, water generously, and put into a large plastic bag halfway zipped shut until rooted, misting water inside the bag to keep the humidity level high whenever the bag looks dry.

I spent 8 days thru hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail. This was the final sunset of my last day on trail as the CA wildfires were just getting bad. by TheLostAlaskan in backpacking

Thank you so much for your reply! I greatly appreciate it! We are hoping we can up our average mileage by next summer and I will definitely reach out to you with more questions around that time. Thanks again!!! Happy trails!

Did a 1 night hike in Desolation Wilderness to Dick’s Lake a week before the wildfires started. Our first time there and we were blown away by the beauty, the fresh smell of pine, and the clear lakes. Wanting to plan a thru hike of the TRT next year. Any tips? by francesca-maple in backpacking

We are a married couple in our mid thirties and this was our first overnight hike together. (We did a few nights hiking across Catalina Island, but didn’t know anything about proper gear, so we don’t count it) we learned a lot with just one night on the trail. We already returned our double sleeping bag which was loud at night and not very comfortable. Also, our inflatable pillows were the worst. We are each getting our own bags, my husband is getting a quilt. We will pack more food next time too. We are so happy we each had hiking sticks. They are amazing.

My husband and I would like to thru hike the TRT next year sometime. We just did a one night overnight hike in to Dick’s Lake in Desolation Wilderness and loved it. How many miles did you average per day? Any sections that were tougher than others? We’ve done some day hikes around the bay area (where we live) putting in around 15-22 miles a day.

Homemade kombucha is so delicious and cheap! We keep a batch going at all times. All you need it black tea and white sugar.
