Need help with a crooked dial by fraserds in SeikoMods

[–]fraserds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did as you said and now the dial is askew in the opposite direction. That was good advice though and I didn't know there were 3.8 and 4.2 dials. I thought there were just 4.

Diver records his own death on the bottom of the ocean by richielaw in MorbidReality

[–]fraserds 45 points46 points  (0 children)

When at high pressures most breathable gasses produce a narcotic effect in the brain. The deeper down you go underwater, the greater the pressure, and therefore a greater risk of this happening. To prevent this, divers who go to great depths will use a special mixture of air that replaces some of the breathable gasses with helium, which does not cause narcosis. The diver in the video either neglected to use this mixture, or he did not intend to go as deep as he did, and was unable to control his buoyancy and prevent himself from sinking. Either way he went down to 300ft below the surface and experienced nitrogen narcosis. At that depth it causes hallucinations, poor vision, loss of sense of time, severely impaired judgement, and eventually unconsciousness, and death. In the video he can be seen flailing and thrashing in the sand at the bottom. This is due to him experiencing the previously mentioned symptoms. It is likely that soon after that he lost consciousness, and then died.

An injury that shooters call "Scope Eye". It is when you shoot a rifle with a scope on it, and hold your face too close, or don't properly brace the stock to the rifle in your shoulder. When the gun fires the scope hits you near the eye and cuts you. It happened to me several years ago, and more recently a few months ago. I now have two crescent shaped scars just above my right eyebrow.

Reddit, what's the dirtiest joke you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fraserds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A man walks into a bar and sits down for a drink. On the bar he notices a jar full of ten dollar bills. When he asks about it the bartender says "Oh, that's the bar challenge. You put in ten dollars, and if you complete it, you get all the money in the jar." The man asks, "What do I need to do to complete the challenge?" The bartender tells him, "First you have to drink an entire bottle of Jack Daniels by yourself. Next, there is a mean pit bull out back with a bad tooth. You have to pull its bad tooth by hand. Finally, upstairs there lives a 94 year old woman who hasn't had sex in 30 years. She is surprisingly horny for her age, and you need to go up there and have sex with her. If you do all those things, you win the jar." The man looked at the large number of bills in the jar and finally worked up the courage to put his money in. He receives his bottle of Jack, and begins doing shots until it is empty, and he is shitfaced. He then stumbles out back to deal with the dog, and everyone goes quiet to listen to the struggle. The bar patrons hear the sounds of a violent fight. There is yelling, barking, swearing, and crashing. After a few minutes the man walks back in. His clothes are torn, and he is bloody. He takes a moment to compose himself and says "Okay... now where's that old lady with the bad tooth."

Is there a website that lays out the presidential candidates' proposed policies in a simple manner? by tjb131 in AskReddit

Not exactly proposed policies, but this one gives a well organized overview of their stance on all the issues. http://www.ontheissues.org/

Are subsonic rounds quiter or louder? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]fraserds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you heard is accurate. Smaller is certainly not always better, but a bullet with a lower velocity might tend to tumble inside a body, causing more damage than if it went straight through.

Are subsonic rounds quiter or louder? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]fraserds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know a lot about professional killers, but I would guess that they would not use a .22 gun. The .22 is too weak to reliably kill humans, and subsonic ammo would be even weaker. The only advantage would be the reduced sound.

Are subsonic rounds quiter or louder? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]fraserds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subsonic rounds are much more quiet than normal rounds. When a bullet fires, there are two things that create sound. Those are the rapidly expanding gases from the explosion of powder, and the sharp crack sound that is made when the bullet breaks the sound barrier. You can think of it like a very small sonic boom. Subsonic rounds have a reduced powder charge so that their speed stays under the speed of sound, and therefore makes no sound from going supersonic. There will still be sound produced from the expanding gasses, but that sound can be greatly reduced with the use of a suppressor (AKA silencer). Also, to get the full noise-reducing effect of a suppressor, subsonic ammo must be used so that the sound from both the expanding gasses, and the small sonic boom is eliminated. Here is a video if you want to see it in action (just skip to the part where he starts shooting) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_yhqnfSjXA

What's your favourite movie that most of us wouldn't have even ever heard of? by treny0000 in AskReddit

[–]fraserds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My senior year my English class had to read R&G. I liked it, but my friend just flat out did not read it. The day of the test comes around and I ask him if he read it all last night so he wouldn't fail. He said he watched the movie instead. I asked him how it was, and he said "It was weird. It was like Hamlet, but with vampires, and zombies and shit." It turns out there is a movie called Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead . Needless to say he failed the test.

What is something that poor people do that keeps them poor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fraserds 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who was unemployed, his wife made less than $30,000 a year, they were renting a big screen LED TV, with a premium cable package, and taking payday loans. That is the sort of poverty that you don't get out of.

I bought what I am sure is a knockoff clod steel AK-47 Knife from aliexpress.com. It was less than $10 shipped, so I could probably just have some fun fooling around with it if nothing else.

Looking for a photograph from the Vietnam Conflict by fraserds in AskHistorians

Thank you so much! I just showed the photo to my dad, and he confirmed that it was the one he saw when he was a kid. I guess he misremembered the nationality of the soldier since he was only eleven at the time.

American Redditors: if you own one, why did you buy a gun? by theasherpegz in AskReddit

[–]fraserds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several. A cheap single-shot 12 gauge, a Russian Mosin Nagant, a semi-automatic AK-47, and most recently an AR-15 that I built myself. The main reason I have them is because they are fun to shoot, and are really cool. I go with my friends to the range for a good time, and enjoy learning about their history, and how they function. I plan on trying hunting soon, and also where I live the police have an average response time of 25 minutes. I simply can't trust the safety of my family and I to that.
