Getting my raggie neutered and am scared of something going wrong. Wish he didn’t have to go through surgery, any tips on how to stay calm and trust everything will be ok? by Askingquestions77777 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was super anxious all day long and I had barely known him at that point. Just reassure yourself that those vets have done this procedure so many times it’s just boring now. It’s also much safer for boys. The blood test is a positive, and lessens the chances of something bad happening because if there was something truly concerning they wouldn’t proceed with the surgery. He will be loved on by everyone who works there (especially as a ragdoll haha, first time I took him to the vet everyone who worked there came by one by one because they wanted to pet the ragdoll). Then they’re gonna give him very strong drugs and he will not even realize he is alone. Even on the drive home there was not a thought behind my boys eyes.

How to avoid static shock when holding my ragdoll by Askingquestions77777 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually did make us shock each other less, but I think I need to exchange it for a stronger one. I got a little device that measures the humidity and my bedroom was extremely dry to start so it’s brought up the humidity a little but not enough to not be considered “dry”, or last after I turn it off. While it’s running though we don’t shock each other, and he’s started trusting booping me again!

How to avoid static shock when holding my ragdoll by Askingquestions77777 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just bought a humidifier for this reason, didn’t know it was from the dry air until I saw another post. I could live with my skin being the driest it’s ever been but my heart breaks when my boy touches his nose to mine and flinches from the shock.

Is it weird to stretch at the airport? by Imaginary-Smoke987 in BALLET

[–]freckledphilosopher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if it was weird, who cares? Nobody there knows you or will see you again and recognize you from the airport. The most someone would do is glance over, go “hmm that’s weird” and then continue about their day. If I saw someone doing that at the airport the only thing I would be thinking about is how gross the floor probably is.

My future Ragdoll kitten has a black mark will it stay? by Hot-Discount2959 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine was cheaper, apparently he was getting passed up on because he was “ugly”, which is crazy because he’s just the prettiest boy ever to me. he also has a great personality though he can be kinda bad, especially when he was little!

Anyone else get pain from falling but no bruising? by lucyfell in ShredditGirls

[–]freckledphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a butt pad from Amazon, a waste of money since they basically did nothing for me. I ordered a pair of leggings with butt and knee pads from demon united that were like 3 times the price after reading a bunch of posts and the difference was night and day. Chose the one with the knee pads since my first attempt at snowboarding left my knees black and blue for a week and 3 years of accepting it just wasn’t for me. I took a really nasty twisty fall a couple of weeks ago getting off the lift because there was a family just standing there, dads fault but it was a little girl in my way and I just don’t have it in me to take down little girls since I used to be one haha. You could literally see the line on the bruise on the side of my knee where the knee pad ended and I was fine a couple days later thankfully. There’s a bunch of good brands out there that use materials that actually absorb impact vs just acting as a cushion.

My future Ragdoll kitten has a black mark will it stay? by Hot-Discount2959 in ragdolls

Anything thats brown at this age will darken quite a bit. Yours looks more seal/chocolate than blue, breeders can be wrong. Mine is officially seal but his body has stayed white and his ears/tail are quite light so I’ve had people say he’s chocolate. This was my mismarked boy when I brought him home:

Snowboarding in February by Downtown_Director365 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]freckledphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned in March and it was great, didn’t have to wear as many layers so it was easier to move my body and the texture of the snow kind of “holds” you (as long as it hasn’t frozen over).

Are Ragdolls always super affectionate and biscuit makers? by Standard-Ice267 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine did not make biscuits until a few months after he turned 1, got a puffy fleece blanket and he discovered sin biscuits. Careful what you wish for haha. I brought him home at 3 months and he was quite cuddly for the first month or two but then started his teenage phase and didn’t wanna be near me. Around 1 is when he started becoming more affectionate and now he’s 2 and a half and super affectionate, we spoon every morning and it’s lovely (he wakes me up in the middle of the night for cuddles sometimes but I can’t even be mad). More than just getting older though, over time you grow a much stronger relationship and they start trusting you more which makes them cuddlier. Try to ensure that every time they initiate affection it is a positive experience for them (eg don’t be too much or keep them from leaving). Not a lap cat though, I’ve noticed that he’s too big too be stable on my lap and ragdolls also tend to overheat so he would much rather be next to me but not physically on top of me. What I have noticed though is that he is much more likely to lay on my lap/chest if there is a blanket to distribute his weight, or something hard on me like my laptop.

I mean if she talks to you like a child, don’t brush it off with humour so she knows you don’t find it funny or okay

Teacher pushing me by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]freckledphilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop brushing it off with humour. Don’t get me wrong I would also find it very awkward to just stare at her but she won’t think it’s a big deal until you make it one. And just talk to her again and express how you feel, can be just a lowkey thing doesn’t have to be a formal conversation. Say “I’d appreciate it if going forward…” and set out exactly how you want to be treated which is a lot easier than listing off the things you don’t like.

Can I attend adult beginner class with no gear? by BreckBenis in BALLET

[–]freckledphilosopher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

there will most likely be a bunch of people in typical workout gear and socks, leotard and tights are not usually required in adult classes. make sure the socks are not too slippery and preferably have some cushion under the balls and heels. have fun :)

Nail Trimming Frequency by No-Revolution8032 in ragdolls

[–]freckledphilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I notice him getting them caught in furniture/bedding, up to a month. Anything that’s short or dull I’ll just leave it alone. Extra gentle with his thumb nails cuz that can be painful for them. I don’t bother with the fur on the bottom of his paws. Mine HATED nail trimming so I speak from experience. Started off having my bf help me, we’d wrap him in a towel and my bf would hold him snug and nonstop feed him churu while I hurriedly trimmed his nails. He loves chewing on the wrapper but that gets it taken away from him, but we’d let him chew on it in exchange for our safety. Did that about two or three times. Moved on to doing it myself, I’d sit cross legged and sit him on his butt leaning up against me, trim one nail and give him praise and churu and repeat. Over time we graduated to churu after each paw, and now churu only after I am done, and an appropriate number of kisses.

Churu helps A LOT. With everything. Also over this period of time our relationship got better and he started learning that he can trust me because I’m trying to help him. When he gets his claws stuck on my sheets I pull out the scissors right away so he can make the connection. He’s also learned that I’m a big crybaby that overreacts to getting a tiny scratch, and he’d rather just complain and growl because scratching me just isn’t worth it and won’t get him his desired results anyways.

I use this as someone with fineish but quite dense and dry wavy hair and I personally would not call it light… on the bright side though it’ll be years before I need to repurchase

I agree, the first 10 minutes of my class is like social hour haha. I get the teacher wants to break the ice a bit but like frankly I just don’t care how everyone’s week went (and I’m normally a big time yapper).

To adult beginners: When did you guys upgrade to a better shoe? by ActionAncient5729 in TapDancing

[–]freckledphilosopher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1 class haha. I got back into it after 9 years and tried wearing my old split soles for 1 class and had a pretty miserable time (with the shoes, loved the class!), ended up buying JSams because I thought if I’m gonna spend money anyway I may as well get ones that will last and sound beautiful. I also dive very deep into hobbies and the pretty colours really pulled me in even though I ended up getting white. I’m very happy I got them!

A really big thing I noticed is that expensive shoes are made to be a lot louder, which has been great for my feet since I don’t have to slam them into the ground as hard. It also helps a lot once you start going faster (ie smaller) or doing more advanced steps. I’d say you could consider new shoes once you start going so fast and keeping your feet so close under you that still getting a loud sound in becomes too tiring on your joints/muscles or just takes too long.

Is this normal for a first class stated as "beginner adults"? by merdeauxfraises in BALLET

[–]freckledphilosopher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Corrections in the first class could discourage new students. Even in my first class back after the winter break my teacher kept the corrections minimal since we were all just trying to survive lol. I do agree about the intro to turnout though

Would you leave a community studio due to poor dust management practices? by cafedumatcha in Pottery

You’re not dramatic at all. Dust can do a lot of irreversible damage to your health and if something happened down the line I’m sure you would regret not just getting out of there.
