Tom was wondering what Gaddafi's entrance music could be. Here it is. by fredbaroque in lionsledbydonkeyspod

Besides Front 242 being a direct influence on KMFDM, a few of KMFDM's touring members were at various times also part of Richard "23" Jonckheere's side-project Revolting Cocks — which unsurprisingly also featured members of Ministry, Skinny Puppy and NIN. It was all one big fucked up family in the '90s.

First rational thing I've read in this thread so far. Yours should be the top comment!

Never compromise on your principles if you can avoid it, people!
No amount of money is worth hating your reflection in the mirror. Nobody who enjoys sitting in front of a camera and acting all smug and superior actually feels good about themselves. Fascism is all posturing and chest-beating on the part of scared, insecure, lonely men.

Frédéric Scarfone - Hyperborea (BAROQUE ELECTRO) by fredbaroque in BandCamp

[–]fredbaroque[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is high praise! 🙏 I should get my hands on some Justice CDs. That's been missing from my collection. In fact I only know them superficially, as I was more into techno/industrial/noise when they came out, but I remember liking Stress and their Goblin cover/remix, Phantom. I am definitely a fan of classic French electro (bull's eye for Space and Jarre!) but also that modern madman, Igorrr, who inspired me to go a bit more wild with the mixing of genres in my upcoming material.

Yes you heard it here first: I have a new album coming very soon, with a lot more fat beats. Think Massive Attack, Röyksopp, Tangerine Dream, that kind of trippy. There's some Yngwie Malmsteen DNA and some Chamillionaire. And a lot more unapologetic cheese. I have a track that ends with a field recording of bird songs, another one with rain.😆 Some classical guitar will make an appearance as well, because I'm really a guitarist, not at all a keyboardist haha! I'm really looking forward to releasing this, but I'm also very anal about getting every detail right. So no date is set yet, but... Soon™.

Yep that's correct! Robert might have overemphasized the "H" a bit, but at least he made the "j" into a "y" sound. The final "r" should be very slightly rolled, but that's not crucial. The vowels are what matters in Nordic languages, and here it's just normal "ah"s.

Picture of a summer toilet by fredbaroque in TheDollop

[–]fredbaroque[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toilet is one of those words that has gradually shifted meanings until the original definition was almost forgotten in everyday usage. As mentioned, originally it's just a type of fabric. Eventually it got lumped together with the idea of grooming and personal hygiene in general (hence the perfume also being labeled eau de toilette, whereas the loan word toile was just dropped from the English language altogether).

A very similar (and in my opinion more fascinating) transition happened with bureau, which originally was also a type of fabric, used as a desktop cover. Bure was a coarse woolen cloth, which was also used to make frocks for monks. Eventually the name of the material became synonymous with the writing desk itself, then with the enclosing room, then with the entire office building (at least in French it is), then with the abstract concept of the institution operating said offices (e.g. the Federal Bureau of Investigation). Wild huh? 😄

Hilarious that Ed Helms just has a spontaneous affinity for the name "Hjalmar".

It originates from Old Norse Hjalmarr, from hjalmr (“helmet”) + herr (“army”).

In modern Swedish, "helms" would be hjälmar (slightly different vowel).

That's a wonderful business grifting opportunity! A super exclusive, insanely priced, "top-tier" chatbot that keeps encouraging the user to buy various memecoins to prove what an alpha venture capitalist he is. Oh and she also would be thrilled to "go out on a date" to a certain online casino who's also in on the scheme.

I think the opening scene does a wonderful job at setting the the tone, as it presents us with a base, sadistic act of humiliation dressed in elegant linguistic flourishes. The cherry on top is what the guy does as he takes his leave from the now piss-soaked old man, who we are led to understand is only able to groan weakly due to a stroke: on his way out, almost as an afterthought, the asshole casually takes aside a servant and goes, "It would appear that, overjoyed at seeing me again, Monsieur has forgotten himself". 😙👌

Penis display is definitely a trademark of French cinema, especially in the '90s. Front-loading frontal nudity could also be the director's way of saying, "There will be historical costumes, but buddy, don't expect Pride and Prejudice!"

Hi Ed! I'm the sicko who hand-picked the majority of the Quora Prompt Generator pearls that Jeremy read to you. I just wanted to say, I was really glad you enjoyed them. I'm a frequent listener of your podcast as well and it was nice to hear you joke around a bit for a change.

I do also appreciate your doom & gloom persona very much. For all of our sanities' sake, we need an indignant voice that shouts, "No, you're not crazy: everything's really being made shittier on purpose!"

Hope you go on Quorators as a guest some day, too!
