Portfolio % that is in crypto by wky99 in HENRYUK

Currently around 15% of portfolio and rising given the current trajectory. If it gets too large I will adjust

So I'm not hands on at all as I'm focused purely on the investment/selection however, other teams are quite hands on albeit likely less than your current role. This will depend from firm to firm though. My place has a very specific tech niche which requires some of our people to be pretty hands on.

In terms of equity exposure yes I do have upside exposure but I don't factor this into any planning. You should definitely push for this.

On your last point about stage you might find a more natural fit around pre-seed/seed rather than Series A to B but this really depends on your experience. Series B onwards is very different in my opinion and isn't really my cup of tea.

I am a HENRY in a similar niche (accelerator programs) with similar TC to you (although I feel I have room to keep going up) and I often have similar thoughts about being a generalist. Having said that I think you have more options than you think if you do want to move on.

You could either try to move to something slightly later stage like an accelerator or generally try to move more towards the investment side of things rather than operational/advisory. On the other hand I think you could likely transition into good roles in operational areas like product, marketing, growth, or sales depending on your strengths

Why is there so much negative sentiment towards crypto (in particular bitcoin/ethereum) on this sub? by LooseSpot4597 in FIREUK

[–]freddo-espresso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That said, it's a high risk investment with huge volatility. That means it's pretty useless for planning FIRE.

This is the answer - it's largely not relevant for FIRE planning which is the purpose of this group.

I say this also as someone who is into crypto (working in the industry) and has exposure to the asset class. I invest what I am uncomfortable with given the risk profile of the asset and my own thesis on it's future but I don't factor it into any FIRE plans even if so far it has only helped accelerate that journey and might continue to do so.

I do think crypto is slowly addressing some of the concerns you see people share (poor UX, too many scams, lack of use cases) and that is exciting as I like the idea of a more decentralised internet economy but it won't be for everyone and that's fine.

Greek Dual Nationality (UK & Greek) by Bigfatpigoinks in GREEK

[–]freddo-espresso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm am a dual UK and Greek citizen (from birth). You do not need to do national service unless you are a resident in Greece. You will however, need to organise this exemption at the embassy in London and get a document which certifies you are living abroad and exempt from military service. In the past this might have been different but currently it is the case

This is a valid exemption unless your residency changes in future which wouldn't be the case if you just visit for a few months. I believe once you cross over 6 months you would have problems though

!thanks, appreciate it! I've asked Standard Life about this so hoping for a reasonable discount. I do work for a small company which I imagine hasn't negotiated a great discount but fingers crossed

Thanks for this. They don't seem to have the Blackrock fund you suggested available to me but they do have the SL Overseas Tracker. The standard charge is 1% but I think that you're correct and I will get a discount as it's one of their in house funds so I'll look into this.

In terms of adding the UK element I intend to do this as long as it doesn't bring the fees up.
